The 3D promotional trailer for Walt Disney Pictures anticipated blockbuster has been the talk of Comic-Con, especially after star Johnny Depp (who plays the Mad Hatter) dropped in on Burton's panel on Thursday.
Depp Helena Bonham Carter (Burton's partner) and Anne Hathaway will star in the visual effects-tweaked film, due in theaters March 2010.
The actors are all digitally enhanced with distorted features, such as an enlarged head for the Red Queen, Bonham Carter's role, and enlarged eyes for Depp's Hatter.
No stranger to Comic-Con, Tim Burton first came to the geek convention back in the 1970s, before Hollywood glommed on to it and turned it into a marketing platform.
Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" is still in post-production, and Burton joked with his audience that he was anxious to get back to working on the film.
He also shared that his live action and animation effort was based on author Lewis Carol's material, including the "Jabberwocky Poem." The director shared his actors worked in front of a green screen.
