Police were called to 'The O.C' actress' Hollywood house to assist with a "medical issue" and shortly afterwards escorted her from her home to an unspecified location.
A spokesperson for Los Angeles police, Karen Rayner, said the force is "currently assisting" the British-born actress and that no other individuals were involved.
No arrests have been made.
It is thought the authorities responded after a non-emergency services call at around 3pm.
Mischa has previously found herself on the wrong side of the law.
In February 2008 she was charged with four counts relating to an arrest for drink driving in 2007.
The charges included driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.08 per cent or higher, driving without a licence and possession of a small amount of marijuana.
She was sentenced to 36 months probation, alcohol education classes and a fine.
The actress has since revealed she went into rehab after the arrest in order to help her case.
She said: "I wanted to prove to the court that I would take it completely seriously, so I went to rehab to prove I was sober.
"I did it in the most low-key way possible - I didn't make a fuss about it and I didn't tell a lot of my friends. I just did the programme and got through it."
