14 years for pot is ridiculous.

I hope they don't ruin this kids life over something as harmless as growing a few plants. I'm sure he isn't a threat to anyone, and locking him up is an injustice.

Alcohol is far more dangerous drug and it is legal. You don't ever see stoners running their cars into people or other cars or beating on their families during a drunken rage, because their 'fav' team lost the big game. I think it is about time we as a world society wise up about this issue. Is it just because our governments make so much money from the sale of booze? if so then legalize marijuana and tax it. I have thought and I am quite sure that studies would show that the rampant alcohol use in this world of ours has led to more pain and sorrow than any other 'controlled' substance on the planet. Leave this kid alone and start burning down the distilleries and brewery's. Legalize It!

Yep, question of stupid mores.
We've got alcoholics, but society and government agree.
Drink, die, we'll get paid anyway.
Religion? Well, nothing at all knowing for instance that Jesus brought the wine as his blood. What could they say?
But pot?...

worried about this, Mr. President....Jul 8th, 2009 - 17:01:10

i think it's crazy that our own government (who allows the drugs into our country) is putting the dealers/users in jail for ridiculious amounts of time and yet sexual predators are allowed out in just 5 months!!! does this make sense to anyone else? Mr. President, where are you with this? why are we letting our children be sexually abused and killed when the drug dealers/users aren't really doing horrible things when compared to the reality of things in our world today. i truly believe that pot smokers are the least of our worries. pot doesn't make you kill, steal, burglarize and drive over people like the other drugs out there; including alcohol!!!! leave the kid alone and give him community service. we know he isn't going to kill, abuse or hurt anyone while doing it!!

well drug dealers in general is bad but MARIJUANA is not really a drug. If you don't do it till your brain is fully developed it does not kill brain cells just prevents them from fully developing. Heroin and crack them dealers and users should be put away or made to get help for there addiction.

The law is the law. No one forced him to grow pot. Whether you think it should be legal or not is beyond the point. Whether you think pot is safe or not is beyond the point. If you don't want to spend years in jail, then DON'T GROW POT. It's that simple. After you have successfully lobbied to make growing pot legal, go right ahead. Until that point, you are a criminal.

The thing that people seem to forget is, you can't prove that he was only growing it to use himself: if he were to sell it to some kid then it could ruin that kid's life.
I'm not saying that he would do (obviously I have no idea on the subject really), but things like that have to be taken into consideration.
Anyway he'll probably get away with a warning...

There should be no laws against pot. I know cops who said they'd rather see pot legalised instead of alcohol.

Lock him up and let him rot, it is against the law, if he can not obey the law then let him pay the price. Drinking to much is against the law also. If you get a DWI you will go to jail also.

law??Jul 10th, 2009 - 00:54:47

to say law is law, we must first visit the law's intention. In a phrase 'corrupted politician who was worried about his timber stocks failing due to hemp's growing popularity as cheap replacment. Before you go acting like Mr/Mrs. lawful hero, you may want to check out the laws you so dutifully protect. And sure he knew the law and chose to break it, but that is what people do when the government is no longer for the people, by the people.
what say you now??

it is not against the law to drink to much. I'd love to see bars try and regulate how much i guy had to drink when he is so drunk he cant even sign the receipt because of how much alcohol he had! No reason to compare laws incorrectly now.

Okay, so 14 years in jail if freaking ridiculous. I mean seriously? The kid is only 19, and still really can't make the smartest decisions in his life. I agree with the other people on this post, make him do community service, pay a fine to the city, or something, but don't ruin the kids life.
Personally, I don't support the legalization of ANY drug, nor do I support alcohol or smoking, but that's just me. My point here is, he made a mistake, keep him in house arrest or something, but 14 years in jail is an outrage, I've heard of murders and sexual abusers getting less time in jail then that. The kid has one more movie to go, and a bright future in front of him, so don't kill him over something stupid you probably did in high school...
