Los Angeles - Farrah Fawcett was laid to rest Tuesday at a private funeral for family and friends in Los Angeles.
The former star of the 1970s TV show Charlie's Angels died Thursday after a three-year battle with cancer.
She is survived by her son, Redmond O'Neal, 24, who is in jail on drug charges but was released temporarily to attend the funeral. O'Neal's father, Ryan O'Neal, 68, who was Fawcett's life partner since the early 1980s, was among the mourners who arrived at the cathedral, followed by a hearse carrying Fawcett's coffin, accompanied by 10 motorcycle officers.
The public and media were kept away from the service, but hundreds of fans watched from across the street.
Fawcett, born in 1947 in Corpus Christi, Texas, shot to fame when she posed in 1976 for a pin-up poster wearing a one-piece bathing suit and her million-dollar smile.
At the same time, she started her role as a sexy and daring detective in the series Charlie's Angels, and she immediately became one of the best known superstars in America. The pin-up went on to become the top-selling poster in history, selling an estimated 12 million copies. Fawcett quit Charlie's Angels at the height of its success, and her later movies included The Burning Bed, Logan's Run, The Cannonball Run and the Robert Altman-directed Dr T and the Women.
She was diagnosed with anal cancer in 2006 and chronicled her fight with the deadly disease in the documentary Farrah's Story, which was screened on US television just weeks before her death.

What a beautiful Documentary that Farrah, Ryan and Alan Stewart made to show the traumatic affects fighting cancer.
It was absoulutely beautiful to get to know Farrah in this story ; what a beautiful person inside and out! Such a sweet soul which she always exuded which probably contributed to everyone falling in love with her integrity and Christian Spirit.
Ryan, what a wonderful real person you are; you two were truly soul mates. It's apparent that you did not need a legal slip to be married; your souls were intertwined with so much caring, sharing, laughter and love.
God Bless you Ryan and Redmond!! We pray that you both can embrace each other along with your other children and move through life's journey peacefully. Redmond , may your Mommy's Angels protect you and help you find peace and sobriety!! May you seek out the love and support of your other siblins as well as your broken hearted Daddy Ryan.
Thank you so much for creating and sharing this heartwarming tear jerking Documentary about Farrah's journey. What an incredible 'Love Story'.. God Bless all of the Oneal Family and Fawcett Families!!
We love you so much; and hope to always hear and see Farrah on TV!!
A True blue fan from California!!
I wish we could see Ryan Oneal in more movies and Television. He was so incredibly colorful and real when watching him with Farrah in 'Chasing Farrah' and in 'Farrah's Story'. I hope that Ryan will do another documentary about the survivors of 'Loved Ones' post mortem or after they lose a beloved one such as Farrah. I think their are so many who would appreciate watching Ryan and Redmond and how they cope during the aftermath of having to say an early 'Goood bye' to their Angelic Farrah.
Thanks so much Ryan for letting us in to see your challenging journey. So many people learned so much and could empathize with your pain as well as 'ups and downs' as a care taker. My father died of the same type of cancer as Farrah did. It's a paradoxical feeling to see them pass; one part of you is relieved they are no longer suffering; the other part of you is heartbroken because they were taken by a snyperous cancer and were'nt prepared to depart so early from planet earth.
Please, Ryan, keep us updated with interviews and another documentary of how you survive and endure life after your soul mate leaves you abruptly.
We also care so much about Redmond and pray he carries on for his Mommys's legacy of strength and hope.
God bless all of you wonderful people!!!
What a brave, courageous lovely lady. Even more beautiful at the time of her death. Except for my late mother, she was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. In junior high my grades faltered because of my obsession with being an 'angel'. You are now at peace, no more suffering. You are with the real Angels, your mom and sister. I know my mother, a fan, welcomed you with open arms. You were my first girl crush..I have never gotten over it...God Bless Ryan, Alana, your father, family and friends. May God give you strength, comfort and peace..remember, the soul never dies..
It's sad when anyone dies of cancer. I gained a great deal of respect for Farrah after watching the recent documentary. What a class act and great example for all of us. I sincerely hope her son gets it together. Watching your child making all of the wrong decisions is enough to cause cancer. It's so stressful on a loving parent which is clearly what Farrah was.
Farrah Fawcett was laid to rest (June 30, 2009) at Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park & Mortuary in Los Angeles (Westwood).
This cemetery is the same one where Marilyn Monroe is entombed.
Farrah's grave site is just to the right of Merv Griffin (TV Host) and two plots to the left of Rodney Dangerfield (Comedian).
