It just bored me to tears. So I went to a junkyard and said, 'Do you have a destroyed sports car and can you wrap it up, put a ribbon around it and leave it at Paul Newman's house?' "Not to be outdone, Newman - who was a champion racing driver and formed his own team Newman/Haas Racing - had the vehicle crushed, giftwrapped in a giant box and delivered back to Robert.Redford then had it turned into a garden sculpture and dumped back into his friend's yard.The 72-year-old screen icon added: "It was really awful."Newman passed away last September after losing his battle with cancer.
