'Schizophrenic' Billie Joe Armstrong

Jun 6, 2009, 4:01 GMT

Billie Joe Armstrong feels "schizophrenic".

The Green Day singer revealed the characters - a couple called Gloria and Christian - on new album '21st Century Breakdown' are both versions of himself, leading him to worry about his mental state.

He said: "There's one man and one woman on the record, what does that say? I think the people on the album are 100 per cent me. It's just different names - those songs could be called 'Bille's Inferno' or 'Viva La Billie Joe'. The character thing came almost by accident during recording. There's a yin/yang element to them - it's a little bit schizophrenic in a lot of ways."

The 37-year-old singer says playing live is the thing he loves doing most in the world, adding he enjoys it so much he feels performing is "in his DNA".

He explained: "I really think I was born to do this. I love feeding off the crowd and making them as much a part of the show as the band is. Every night I play as though my live depended on it."

I am a huge Green Day fan and I love their Rock Opera thing. I also liked their older stuff. Green Day is a very creative band who writes intelligent stuff that sounds good. The only thing that kinda annoyed me was a very common mistake many people make. Most people get Schizophrenic mixed up with Dissociative Identity Disorder (formerly called Multiple Personality Disorder). My professor drilled this into my head because lots think Schizophrenia is a 'split personality' because the word comes from the Greek word meaning 'split mind.' Look it up. Its interesting stuff. And I think Billie Joe is very intelligent, its just that my professor repeated this to us almost every lecture!!!!!

Well, Billie Joe is a smart guy, I love his voice and music, he works hard on all he does and perseveres; he is truly my hero. I hope he can get over this without excessive attention from the media, or it could ruin his career. Occasionally, bad publicity boosts a career, but I don't want Billie Joe or any member of Green Day going that way in order to help them make more sales or get more famous... THAT would be truly selling out!

Get well soon, Billie Joe, I know you can do this.

Has any body actually read the actual article?

Media sucks big time here...its from the NME article and its him describing himself
and his ying/yang..his balance of his personality

I am pissed off with most of these people who make articles without knowing the source or thw whole story. Billie is very smart and he IS NOT Schiziophrenic...its just a way he is trying to describe things...

so this goes out to all who do reporting ....check proper sources of the original quote
and don't be lazy
