The US quintet have received nods in the Album of the Year and Best Live Act categories, while their single 'White Winter Hymnal' is up for Song of the Year.
British alternative band Elbow's album 'The Seldom Seen Kid' - which won two 2009 BRIT Awards and the 2008 Nationwide Mercury Prize - is nominated for Album of the Year.
Other albums up for the accolade include Kings of Leon's 'Only By The Night', Paul Weller's '22 Dreams', and 'A Woman A Man Walked By' from PJ Harvey and John Parish.
Elbow's song 'One Day Like This' joins 'White Winter Hymnal' in the Song of the Year category along with Kings of Leon's 'Sex on Fire', Franz Ferdinand's 'Ulysses' and Animal Collectives 'My Girls'.
Gallows, White Lies, School Of Seven Bells, Eli 'Paperboy' Reed and The True Loves, and Glasvegas will fight for the coveted Breakthrough Act prize. The award was previously won by The Last Shadow Puppets and Corinne Bailey Rae.
The winners of the 2009 MOJO Honours List will be announced at a star-studded ceremony on June 11.
