Uncertain future in ring for Ricky Hatton, defeat to Pacquiao

The Mancunian pugilist known as the "Hitman," a nickname shared with legendary American boxer Thomas Hearns, was defeated last night by Philippine champion Manny Pacquiao.
According to the Associated Press, Ricky Hatton's father Ray claims that his son's future is uncertain at this point, and that a decision to possibly retire after his second-round knockout to Manny Pacquiao in the heavily promoted match in Las Vegas is still pending.
Hatton was floored during the first round twice, and then suffered the knock out blow in the second round, laid out by Pacquiao's left hook.
This was Hatton's second defeat in 47 fights.
The AP reports that Hatton was checked for brain injury at a nearby hospital after the fight.
"He's perfectly all right," Ray Hatton told BBC Radio Five on Sunday. "They've checked him out. He's had all the tests and everything. He's not got a mark on him."
Whether or not the popular British fighter carries on in the sport is up in the air, according to his father.
"Obviously, we will support him in whatever he does and we'll leave that with him," Hatton said to the BBC Radio Five reporter. "At this moment in time, he's probably got a few mixed feelings about it. He'll make that decision whichever way he wants to and the family will support him.
"I don't think he would let anybody make that decision for him. He would make it himself, that's one thing I am absolutely certain of. He's very, very strong willed."
Hatton's trainer for the fight was Floyd Mayweather Sr.
"I would suggest he retire. At the end of the day, it's his decision," Mayweather Sr. said. "He tried twice. He failed twice. He lost to my son and to lose to someone below that, it's time to leave the ring. He made a good profit. Sometimes you have to go when your prime is still there."

Shut up Floyd Snr! Do not blame Ricky alone for the loss! Ricky is a good figther, you are just not good enough as a trainer.
Hope Hatton recovers and fight again and show how good he is. Pacman is just too fast for him but Ricky could beat other world class fighter.

DEAR Hatton, dont retire you are still young. Go to Freddie Roach train for 6 months. Manny had style the same as you 9 years ago. in 3 fights, Roach changed him into what he is now today. Start all over again. I am a Filipino respecting your courage but I am a solid PACMAN fan. Very few boxers like you with heart ready to die inside the ring. Keep it up.

Congrats to Pacman and his whole team! I like to commend Manny for being great in discipline in his training and in his actual fight. Manny's victory will not be possible without the help of his trainor, Freddie Roach - you are the greatest boxing trainor in the whole world! i felt sad when they announce you had parkinson. You got it all mixed up. Are you trying to say that Pacquiao is that someone below your son? Come on Floyd, your son is the most boring boxer in the world. Your son barely won against Dela Hoya. Your son took 10 rounds to dispose Hatton. Pacquiao easily defeated them in an embarassing fashion. Wait till your boring son gets the same embarassing moment from Pacquiao.

I'm not boxing expert but from what I saw what made Ricky lost was his strategy. Ricky just launched to a front all attack against PacMan. He should have had a different strategy.
Right now the only boxing style that can beat PacMan is Floyd Jr, boring but effective for fast boxers like PacMan.
Ricky should not retire he is a good fighter like manny pacquiao but a wrong trainer. Your Juan Manuel Marquez is just a lucky guy against the Pacman. Pacman has beaten him twice but was lucky to salvaged a draw on the first fight when one of the judges committed an error, it should have been 10-6 and not 10-7.
The 2nd fight should not have been a split decision but rather at least a majority decision or unanimous decision if not a TKO, had Marquez not saved by the bell on two particular rounds.
JMM should be thankful, luck was on him.

Although I am a fan of Pacman. I have noticed after the fight of the Pacman and the Hitman, the head trainer of Ricky, Floyd Sr., wasn't there, he didn't even bother to check his fighter. He does not have the respect of his fighter specially when his fighter is down. What he did is to wash his hand and told the media that Ricky was not following his instructions and even told Ricky to retire.
