Lily Allen was terrified her career was over because of her wild lifestyle.
The 'Fear' singer became famous for her drinking and partying when she released her debut album 'Alright, Still' in 2006, and was worried it would take the attention away from her talent as a singer and songwriter.
She said: "I took a bit of a beating the first time around. I became more famous for being a train wreck than a singer. I didn't think I was capable of writing songs and making music."
The 23-year-old star believes she was unfairly treated because of her gender and age.
She complained: "Young women are represented in a way that isn't true. If a girl is seen having a drink she's a drunk. If that happens with a guy it's not portrayed in the same way."
Meanwhile, Lily has revealed she is determined to quit smoking as she suffered another asthma attack after her concert at New York's Roseland Ballroom.
She said on her social networking site Twitter: "I must lay off fags. Eeuugh."
