Miss California Carrie Prejean's expressed beliefs cause Perez Hilton to speak out

Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton asked a pointedly political question about gay marriage in the traditional beauty pageant setting of the Miss USA contest, and he did not get the answer he wanted to hear.

Hilton has never minced words, and his tirade on his website afterwards has ignited a day-long media storm on CNN, FOX, MSNBC and other news channels on who was in the right and in the wrong.

The issue at hand is that Miss California will not back track from the answer to a difficult (for some) question that most politicians have artfully managed to sidestep or talk out of both sides of their mouths, but she is not a politician.

Carrie Prejean went on the traditional, right-leaning FOXNews.com that she had "no regrets" and was happy with the answer she gave when a Miss USA judge, the gossip blogger Perez Hilton, asked about her stance on same-sex marriage.

"I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman," she said on the live broadcast. "No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised."

Blogger Perez Hilton was also enraged, calling Prejean a "stupid b***h" in a video tirade he aired on his blog.

Hilton went on Larry King's show on CNN tonight and defended his remarks, "I felt it was a very important question for me to ask," he said. "It wasn't meant to be a big bomb, or a very hard question to answer for that matter."

"She knew she had lost because it was a bad answer," said Perez Hilton.

"Miss USA should be all-inclusive," said Hilton. "I heard very loud boos, and to my knowledge it was the first time a contestant had been booed," added Hilton.

"I am very glad that I asked the question, and that we are having this conversation," he told King.

Co-director Shanna Moakler, Travis Barker's ex wife in the MTV reality show "Meet the Barkers," said that she fully supported Lewis' condemnation of Prejean's views.

But the backlash is having little affect on Prejean, 21, she says.

"I wouldn't have had it any other way. I stated an opinion that was true to myself, and that's all I can do," she told Billy Bush, who hosted Miss USA, on his radio talk show on Monday.

"It did cost me my crown," Prejean continued. "It is a very touchy subject and [Hilton] is a homosexual, and I see where he was coming from and I see the audience would've wanted me to be more politically correct. But I was raised in a way that you can never compromise your beliefs and your opinions for anything."

Who is this Perez Hilton. A singer, actor, dancer, director. Perhaps he is related to the very talented and intelligent Paris Hilton. I dont care if gays get married or not, by all means enter the institution of marriage. But Miss California was expressing beliefs that are based on her religion and personal beliefs and should not be treated as she was, in a most disgraceful fashion. I had been under the impression that gays were big defenders of free speech, but now see that is true only as long as it is the same as their opinion The First Amendment, you recall that document that gays have used to support their arguments on marriage, also mentions something about freedom of religion. Do gays now believe that their rights to be married and express their support of it should be more important than anothers right of the freedom of religion and expression of that belief. It appears that the only person with balls in the place was the most beautiful women there. Miss California. The political correctness is nauseating and this will not help the gay marriage movement.

Whether or not a judge holds the same position as a contestant on a topic for which they ask a question should not be a part of their evaluation process. This young lady held to her convictions and spoke out on a subject that is currently extremely controversial. The person who asked the question has stated since that he had no intention of asking 'a bomb' of a question. That is absurd. He knew the implications of the question prior to asking it. He very likely wanted a public forum for promoting his particular views, and when the woman he asked gave a conflicting perspective, he judged her as stupid. It is fair to judge her or anyone for the logic behind their views or how they articulate them. There are millions of people who hold the same viewpoint as this young woman, some of which may be stupid, but others who are very intelligent. As for the judge who asked this question, I have serious doubts as to his cognitive level.

How can we be operating in a double standard? Absolutely horrifying and disgusting.. This political correctness is killing me! Whats so bad about her expressing her own opinions? Is it better for her to just lie and say 'I support homosexuals in their marriages'? Mr.. erm I mean, Ms perez hilton is jealous and wanted to try and deface her...

And about Carrie Prejean's, she is a very beautiful woman and was strong on how she carried and handled herself.

That dipstick perez is one ugly SOB anyways

This is just totally biased decision by the 'so-called' judge. She answered based on her belief and this questio has no right or wrong. If he has asked 'What is the capital of Russia' and she said 'Paris'. Then it is absolute wrong. Or if someone ask 'What you think about the poor in world?' And she says 'What is poor'. That I call something to base the judgement on. This question is dumb is so is the decision. She desrves applause for sticking to her belief.

Donald Trump made a decision that will cost the image of the miss usa pageants.

Bringing in a person like this perez hilton who is clearly not a professional.

Ive never heard of such nonsense of a judge at venue like this calling contestents 'dumb bitch'.

So really the blame is entirely on the management oversight and in this case it appears there was little or none.

Its really a disservice to the winner and the history of the pageant.

A politically charged question such as this should not be permitted. As judge that may or may not have an agenda.

So all i can say is Donald im dissapointed in your execution and guidence. Perez Hilton is barred from all future venues as hes a liability.

and BTW Donald Trump YOUR FIRED.

She was ambushed with the question.

Why not ask her what she thinks of abortion while you are at it?

Is it coincidence that the girl from Cali was given this question? It was Hilton's best chance of getting an answer he wanted, and when that didn't happen, the judges and officials acted completely inappropriately.

My guess is this was supposed to be Perez Hilton's shining moment. To have the Miss USA state that she was a proponent of gay marriage would have been a wonderful triumph for his cause. When she snatched that away from him, he snapped and acted unprofessionally.

I wonder if Trump saw this coming. I guess negative publicity is better than no publicity at all.

I got to tell you, I hand it to Miss C; I believe in freedom of speech and freedom of opinion overall and if she was asked an ill-fated question, then she had to stand up for her beliefs, thus she should be honored and commended, not back-lashed. Here in SF, you get lynched (remember that word?), I said LYNCHED for disagreeing with the gays. I have the right to disagree with those who agree and the right to agree with those who disagree.

I have to give Props to Miss California -- especially considering the world we are living in today expects everything to be so politically correct. I admire anyone who has the fortitude to speak completely and honestly on their beliefs and not say something b/c they are worried about backlash (or for that matter what an idiot like Perez-Hilton will think of them). Shannon Moakler and Hilton should be ashamed of themselves for their part in the aftermath of the pageant, especially Moakler, a former USA herself. You would think for that she would uphold better qualities for someone who expects more of other people.

Carrie Prejean~~I commend you. Congratulations on sticking up for your beliefs and not letting the pressures of those who make up our retarded society buckle you!

Isn't it just lovely how the Gay Movement wants to have the right to express themselves in any and all forms while yet the deny that privelge to all who oppose them. Marriage is a union between a man and a woman. By definition, a union between a man and a man or a woman and a woman is not a marriage - sorry it just isn't. Just like 1+1 will never equal anything but 2. Just because Homosexuals have achieved a level of acceptance in our society that at one time held Homosexuality in it's proper place as a Mental Disorder doesn't change the abnormality of the 'life style' choice or act. It is abnormal. It does nothing to promote a healthy society. I truly feel sorry for those whose life experiences have led them to believe that they are 'homosexual'. I feel even more sorry for all of us who are watching the sacred institution of marriage being assulted with the perversions of a warped group of people. Hurray to Carrie Prejean and her ever so public stance defending marriage. She is a hero of the highest order.

Miss California is my kind of person. And since when is anything Politically correct? The word correct loses its meaning when used with the word political. Politic - crafty, unscrupulous or artfully contrived.
Would Politically Correct be defined as lying correctly?

she said from her heart her beliefs, isn,t this what this country is based on, that people die for, so we can have the honest beliefs, and to speak them out, even when asked, Hilton said afterwards that he believes in religion, why doesn't he ask the Pope on his thoughts on tv, digrace him on his video,s, see how far he gets, Miss California was a winner in my mind, hands down, she even backed her thoughts, among the bad publicity, good for her, and I am proud that we have people like her, Hilton has no class, no dignity, he can take his same sex opinions and go home and M--bate

So you have to agree with Perez Hilton's non-traditional views on all subjects to win this stupid pageant? Who picked him as a judge? Why can’t a contestant give an honest answer? Was she supposed to read this perverts mind and parrot his bigoted opinions? Ridiculous! She’s not the loser here – he is.

perez hilton acted very unprofessional as a judge. First of all i believed that he asked that question intentionaly because the state of ca. banned same sex marriage. So he pointed her out . Why didn't he ask that question to other contestants?? We as americans are entitled to our beliefs. Who does perez think he is trying to push his beliefs on her!! And his ignorancy call her a dumb____ was just plain childish and stupid. If i was a homosexual i would be ashamed because the way perez acted. It irritates me on end how these groups say we are bigots because what we believe but they can go around and trash us at no end. I may not believe in homosexuality but i don't mistreat them either. Or call them out of their name. That is just plain stupid. But just because i don't belive in thier lifestlye i should't be called out of my name nor disrespected. Personally perez hilton has set a bad tone for the usa pageant. Ms ca. showed more class then him and should be applauded. Remember I have a right to my beliefs and well as others have their right to their beliefs. repect that!

Somebody should set that repulsively ugly little faggot Hilton, the one who seems to own the whole damn pageant, straight.

That constant homoactivism is turning a lot of people's stomach. It's got to the point where those who don't agree with the homos are ostracised and could lose their jobs. I mean that literally: just wait till a faggot gets promoted manager where you work. Most of the staff eventually gets replaced by homos.

It got to the point where the fucking perverts are calling YOU sick. They call it homophobia. Edgar Allen Poe wrote a story about crazy inmates taking over a madhouse and imprisoning the staff in their padded cells. This is IT, folks...

Since when did a sexual perversion become an ethnic group all of a sudden? They're escalating their dirty sexual habits into some kind of socio-legal guerrilla warfare. That means we have to choose sides.

I've reached my point of no return. I'm not a violent person, but if I ever happen onto a scene where a bunch of skinheads are beating the shit out of a homo, I'll just ignore it and mind my own business. Years ago I most certainly would have called the cops. Not anymore.

Escalation is escalation. I figure now they've asked for it. Not by being what they are, but by forcing it upon us.

Perez Hilton has brought down the reputation of the Miss USA beauty pageant down to a complete and utter farce. After all this, why would women want to participate in future contests? The real message that' s being sent to future contestants is ... be pretty ... be charming ... be talented ... but most importantly ... be vague in your answers. Heaven forbid that you give an honest answer that might cost you the crown.(sarcasm) Then what would be the point of watching these shows anymore. Everything would just be a superficial parade of body and mind.

I commend Miss California for sticking to her point of view. Everyone, including homosexuals has the right to say what they believe without fear of backlash. If Perez HIlton is the new Gay Movement mascot, then God help us all, they have turned into terrorists! Perez is too immature, to engage in honest mature dialogue. I really think Miss California should have put the pageant officials in their rightful place by asking 'while we are at it, I'd like all of you to tell me what you think about abortion, animal rights, and immigration?'

If Perez Hilton did not want an honest answer to his question he should not have asked it. This is not '1984' and Newspeak is not the official language of the United States. However, Hilton's ad hominem attack on Carrie Prejean was inexcusable and showed him to be the disingenuous, bigoted and disgusting little creature that he is. SHAME on Perez Hilton and SHAME on Donald Trump for not demanding that he apologize for his inappropriate and malicious behavior. Oh, I forgot, they're entertainers!

I want to highlight the fact that out of all of these comments, not one of them is backing the confused homo.

I'd also like to point out that in his video where he speaks of the contestant's answer, he says that she was BOO'd.. guess what, I've watched her answer over and over again, and all she received was applause. Not one boo that I could hear, and if there was, it most certainly was just one boo.

Would somebody get this freak of nature off of my TV!!!?! Please call Ted Turner and GM and whoever else is running the show. I'm tired of being force-fed this homo crap as well as the rest of the liberal BS.
