Devout Catholic and actor Mel Gibson and his wife of nearly 30 years, Robyn Moore, have filed for divorce.
The couple released the following statement to the media: "Throughout our marriage and separation we have always strived to maintain the privacy and integrity of our family and will continue to do so."
Gibson and his wife have seven children.
Gibson has had a tumultuous recent past beginning in 2006 when he was arrested for a DUI in Malibu on the Pacific Coast Highway leaving a restaurant. Gibson ranted against Jews in his drunken tirade while being taken into custody by Lost Hills Sheriffs, stationed in nearby Calabasas.
According to TMZ.com, Robyn filed the petition for divorce on April 10, citing "irreconcilable differences."
TMZ also reports that the couple did not have a prenuptial agreement, so their assets will be split evenly.
Robyn is reportedly represented by attorney Laura Wasser.
