DJ Samantha Ronson's split from actress Lindsay Lohan is getting about as much press as their volatile relationship did. Ronson's friends and family have spoken to the media and categorized the Lohan relationship as high drama, and even revealed that Lohan practices "self-harm" and is a "cutter."
Lohan's family, especially her media infatuated father Michael, has "thanked God" publicly that his daughter is away from Samantha's influence. Michael Lohan told TVGuide.com the Ronson family was "rude" to his daughter last weekend — referring to the highly publicized incident where the Ronsons allegedly denied Lindsay access to a private party in Los Angeles.
Three days later, Ronson's mother and sister allegedly inquired about a restraining order at the Beverly Hills police station.
Sgt. Gregg Mader told TVGuide.com that police told the family Monday they would need to go to court to seek an order. He declined to say whether it involved Lohan, and no order had been requested as of Tuesday.
Michael Lohan has long vilified Ronson on blogs and to the media, labeling her a "drug," and "controlling."
OK! Magazine also claimed Ronson's mother, Ann Dexter-Jones, said Lindsay was a "cutter."
People magazine reports that a source close to Ronson is painting a picture of deep relief from the Ronson camp. "Lindsay is extremely protective and jealous and needs an enormous amount of attention, and it's stressful for the world to be watching them."
"[Samantha] takes it pretty good – she acts tougher than she is. She just wants the drama to end." The People source adds, "Both Samantha and Lindsay could use a break and since there is so much crossover with their friends, it's been hard. Their lives are so intertwined."
The same source added to People magazine that Lindsay was viewed as a "loose cannon" and there was still concern for any subsequent actions on her part. Yet other sources tell the magazine Ronson has a soft spot still for Lohan.
"Sam broke up with Lindsay, but it doesn't mean she hates her or wants to see her hurt any worse than she is," says the People source. "She is over Lindsay and over all the drama, but still, she refuses to trash-talk her. She just wants to walk away gracefully."
