Slash would rather play guitar for Fergie than Guns N' Roses.

The axe legend is much happier collaborating with the Black Eyed Peas vocalist than he would be if he rejoined his old band - fronted by Axl Rose - which he left in 1996.

Slash recently joined Fergie on stage at two shows, performing a medley of hits by the Black Eyed Peas and Guns N' Roses classic 'Sweet Child O Mine'.

Speaking after one performance, Slash said: "Fergie's the only way you'll hear Slash right now."

The 43-year-old musician appeared with Fergie, 34, on consecutive nights in Detroit, firstly at the NCAA Big Dance event on April 5 followed by the city's My Coke Fest. Their set also included Hearts track 'Barracuda' and a Led Zeppelin cover.

Fergie dropped to the guitar player's feet during their performance, and also treated the crowd to some of her trademark cartwheels.

Slash - who is also a member of rock group Velvet Revolver - revealed he has a special customised steel drum case in which he keeps his trademark top hat.

He added: "I've got to look after it, it's a part of me."

My Coke Fest also featured the live debut of the track 'Open Happiness' by a super-group consisting of Gnarls Barkley vocalist Cee-Lo Green, Gym Class Heroes singer Travis McCoy, Fall Out Boy frontman Patrick Stump and Panic At The Disco's Brendan Urie.

The track will be used by soft drinks giant Coca-Cola in a new advertising campaign.

Speaking at Coke Fest, Travis said: "It's a super catchy song and I feel like I'm truly part of history because Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles did a song in the 70s for Coke.

"To be the next generation to do something is awesome."

A video for the track is currently being finished, and details of how fans can download the song will be released soon.
