Ryan O'Neal's son has been arrested for taking drugs into jail.

Redmond - whose mother is cancer-stricken actress Farrah Fawcett - was caught taking narcotics into a Pitches Detention Centre in Los Angeles yesterday (05.04.09).

Police spokesman Steve Whitmore said: "At about 9.30 am, our deputies did a routine security check on a car in the parking lot of one of our jails. Redmond was driving the vehicle, and admitted to deputies he was in possession of drugs."

While Redmond, 24, wasn't actually caught passing drugs onto any inmates - he claims he was dropping friends off at the facility - the parking lot is considered part of the prison and is a secure area.

Redmond is currently on probation for a June 2008 driving under the influence (DUI) and drug possession conviction.

Two weeks ago, he pleaded not guilty to drug charges stemming from a September 2008 arrest. Redmond and his father were taken into police custody after drugs were found in their Malibu home.

Ryan, 67, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance and agreed to enroll in an 18-month drug diversion programme. He will appear in court again on July 10.

Redmond remains in police custody on $25,000 bail. He will appear in court to answer the latest charges on Wednesday (07.04.09).
