Obamas hit it off with the queen, British media say

London - US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle acted 'like old friends' during their first meeting with Queen Elizabeth IIin London when the US First Lady and the monarch put their arms around each other, British media reported Thursday.

EPA/OFFICIAL HANDOUT The unusual picture of the 82-year-old queen showing - and being shown - affection in public stunned royal watchers and media observers as - according to protocol - the queen must not be physically touched. Reports said that at the end of their 20-minute meeting in the private rooms of Buckingham Palace, 45-year-old Michelle Obama, towering over the much smaller queen, put her arms around her back. The monarch smiled and responded in kind. Obama said a few moments later: 'I really enjoyed our meeting.'
