The 'Life Before Her Eyes' actress' mother Nena has criticised her for lavishing gifts on her children - daughter Maya, 10 and son Levon Roan, seven - and Uma admits she is worried they will be difficult when they are older.
The 38-year-old star said: "It's hard to comment on yourself as a parent, but my mother reckons I'm messing things up.
"She says grandparents are supposed to be able to spoil the children, but I spoil them so badly that she has nothing to do. I can't help it. I'm probably making them into monsters, but I so desperately want them to be happy."
Uma hopes Maya and Levon Roan - her children with ex-husband, actor Ethan Hawke - will follow her into showbusiness.
She added: "They are very expressive kids. If I think they might have a lot of talent if genetics hand you anything."
Uma, who is engaged to businessman Arpan Busson, insists she lives a normal life which is far from perfect.
She said: "I don't feel famous. Sometimes I am, sometimes I'm not, but it's hard to feel it. Does that make any sense?
"I'd like to classify my life as a romantic comedy. Unfortunately I feel it's probably more like a TV reality show."
