The 59-year-old actor was so scared of revealing his body to women he abstained from lovemaking until he was much older.
He said: "I never had any sex in the 60s. I was always too shy and I didn't want to take my top off. I have a difficult body - you don't want to see me with nothing on.
"I didn't want to show anybody because I knew that once word got out I'd be dead in the water and if the future Mrs. Nighy was out there, I would remain single for the rest of my life."
Meanwhile, the British actor has also revealed he hates showing off his body during the summer months.
He said: "There are only two people in the world who look good in shorts and I'm not one of them - Barack Obama and Brad Pitt. Summer trousers are cooler than shorts anyway and you don't have to smear stuff on your legs. I go pink and septic in the sun if I don't smear.
"The other problem I have with summer is that I don't like linen but I do like to wear a jacket. And I like to wear a jacket because I don't like my shape. So even in the sun without a jacket I feel lost."
