Cheryl Cole's brother faces jail after pleading guilty to assault.
The Girls Aloud star has been left devastated after 28-year-old Andrew Tweedy admitted spraying CS gas in a man's face, temporarily blinding him, and being in possession of an offensive weapon relating to a drunken fight last August.
Andrew's barrister Paul Caulfield said: "He has been advised the court will be looking at a custodial sentence."
Andrew must appear before the judge again next month for sentencing, but because of his 70 previous convictions - including robbery and attacking police officers - he is almost certain to be given a jail term.
Andrew - who missed Cheryl's wedding to soccer star Ashley Cole in 2006 because he was in prison - has previously spoken about his sister's support.
He said: "I've told Cheryl she should be ashamed, but she says she'll never give up on me."
Andrew's conviction is the latest blow for 25-year-old Cheryl, was not in attendance at Newcastle Crown Court for her sibling's hearing.
While she was away on a charity trek up Mount Kilimanjaro earlier this month, husband Ashley was fined for being drunk and disorderly following a row with paparazzi.
The soccer ace - who rocked the couple's marriage last year when he was accused of having an affair with hairdresser Amy Walton - reportedly lost his temper when he was photographed speaking to a mystery blonde woman.
