Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol Palin and her fiancé Levi Johnston have split.
The teen announced her pregnancy while her mother was running as Republican vice-president candidate with presidential candidate Senator John McCain against the Obama-Biden ticket.
During the race, Palin's camp made a point of hinting that the wedding of her pregnant teenage daughter to her ice-hockey-playing fiancé would occur before the November 4 election.
Huffington Post reported that John McCain's campaign had expectations that there would have been a pre-election wedding in Alaska between Bristol Palin, 17, and Levi Johnston, 18, her schoolmate and father of her baby. "It would be fantastic," said a McCain insider to HuffPo. "You would have every TV camera there. The entire country would be watching. It would shut down the race for a week."
The wedding never happened.
The "mutual" split was announced by Levi to the Associated Press.
Bristol previously spoke with FOX News in February and told Greta Van Susteren that she and Levi – parents to 2-month-old son, Tripp – were to get married after they completed high school.
The two tell the AP that they are working together to raise Tripp..
Bristol, who recently told the press she felt abstinence from sex for teens was "not realistic", continues with her education and is attending Wasilla High, taking a class to supplement course work she is completing at home. She also is considering enrolling in college next fall and studying nursing.
Gov. Palin has made no official statement.
