First it was a badly thought out first marriage to Jason Alexander (not the funny one) that lasted 55 hours. Then her marriage to Kevin Federline that produced two sons had everyone asking. "is anyone giving her good advice?"
Her old manager Larry Rudolph did very well for her for a while, then she dumped him, and it seemed that her career went into a total nosedive.
A failed reality show with K-Fed the Vanilla-Ice-like rapper, and subsequent leaked video on the Internet that had Spears' belching and acting a fool didn't help much either.
Then, there were the crazy years, after baby number two, when Britney severed ties with K-Fed, and hooked up with an assortment of personalities that did nothing for her reputation.
After a complete breakdown, Britney had a new set of problems. First with Adnan Ghalib, then Sam Lutfi, one a lover, one a "manager" who attempted to steer the pop star in all matters involving her vast fortune.
Finally, Rudolph was re-established as Britney's manager, and in January 2009, Spears and her father Jamie obtained a restraining order against Sam Lutfi, and her paparazzo lover Adnan Ghalib, and attorney Jon Eardley — all of whom, court documents claim, have been conspiring to get access to the Spears' kitty.
Now Spears' hairdresser testified Wednesday that the singer's former manager Sam Lutfi sent her a stream of text messages in December, saying he was trying to "free" Spears from her father's control.
Lutfi allegedly was enlisting hairstylist Roberta Romero to pass messages to the singer, Romero says, testifying on behalf of Spears' father, who is trying to expand a temporary restraining order against Lutfi, the Associated Press reports.
A lawyer for Jamie Spears read some of the text messages in court; one said, "Very close to getting her free now."
A judge has extended the temporary restraining order but has not made it permanent, and she will hear more testimony April 1.
