Blur made a surprise appearance at last night's Shockwaves NME Awards (25.02.09).
Singer Damon Albarn and guitarist Graham Coxon took to the stage for their first performance together in nine years to play 'This Is A Low' from their classic 1994 album 'Parklife'.
An insider said: "It was the biggest surprise of the night. Nobody could believe it. Everyone was stunned.
"Even bands like the Arctic Monkeys and the Kooks were queuing up just to catch a glimpse of their idols."
Their appearance was so wrapped in secrecy, Damon had threatened to pull out if plans were leaked.
The duo's performance meant they upstaged their former Britpop rivals Oasis, who scooped two awards at the ceremony in London's O2 Brixton Academy for Best British Band and Best Band Blog for guitarist Noel Gallagher's 'Tales from the Middle of Nowhere'.
Muse were the biggest winners of the night, taking home Best Live Band for the third time, Best Album Artwork for 'HAARP' and frontman Matt Bellamy was honoured as Sexiest Man.
MGMT won two awards, taking home Best New Band and Best Track for 'Time To Pretend'.
The Jonas Brothers also scooped a double, though the trio are unlikely to be happy having won Worst Band and Worst Album for 'A Little Bit Longer'.
Elbow were honoured with the Outstanding Contribution Award, marking a successful year for the hitherto unrecognised band, after winning the Nationwide Mercury Prize for album 'The Seldom Seen Kid' and Best British Group at last week's BRIT Awards.
Other performers at the awards included Glasvegas, who duetted with Florence and the Machine, Elbow, Franz Ferdinand - who played a rendition of Blondie's 'Call Me' with La Roux - and Godlike Genius winners The Cure.
