Octuplet grandma in US blasts daughter as 'unconscionable'

Los Angeles - The mother of the woman who gave birth to octuplets has slammed her daughter's actions as 'unconscionable' and said that the single mother has no way to support the babies and her six other children.
Angela Suleman made the comments to the website radaronline.com as her daughter Nadya Suleman showed the babies for the first time in an interview with NBC Monday morning.
The images of the doting mother and tiny babies - all with biblical names - were meant to quell criticism that erupted after the circumstances of the 'miracle birth' came to light last week.
But that plan was scuppered by the harsh comments of the grandmother, who said that she was emotionally, financially and physically drained from looking after the six grandchildren who live with their mother in Suleman's house. She also claimed that her daughter never contributed food or rent money and that she would probably have to go on welfare to help support the new babies.
'She really has no idea what she's doing to her children and to me,' Angela Suleman said. 'I'm really tired of taking care of those six. I really need (Nadya) to think of what she's going to do and how she's going to provide for all these children.'
She said the humble three-bedroom home in which she lived with her husband, daughter and six kids was already overcrowded. Video images on radaronline.com showed a bedroom packed with bunk beds and piles of clothes spilling from the closet.
'We're there all crowded in. The master bedroom has a big bed and two little cribs and the other bedroom has one bed and one crib and there is one bedroom with bunk beds that I had gotten before, so it's pretty crowded. But the children are wonderful, beautiful children and I love them dearly. I would never let anything happen to them, so I'm taking care of them and I have been.'
'I don't know what the future will bring, because, hopefully Nadya Suleman will get some living accommodations - because it's a really small house.'
Angela Suleman said her daughter was irresponsible with money and ignored her retired mother's financial needs.
'The house is full of toys,' she said. 'My daughter has always spent a lot of money on toys and really not helping out with the children or the living arrangements - never paid anything for rent.'
She called her daughter's sense of values 'kind of strange,' nothing that she was a retired teacher with a small retirement, most of which she was spending supporting the grandchildren.
She said that when she first heard that Nadya was trying to get pregnant again she intervened with Nadya's fertility doctors, who agreed to stop treating her, but that Nadya found another doctor.
That statement contradicted Nadya's claims in the NBC interview that the same doctor had performed the fertility treatments that led to all her pregnancies.
NBC named the fertility center as the West Coast IVF Clinic in Beverley Hills. The Medical Board of California announced last week that it was conducting an investigation to see if her fertility treatment violated medical ethics.
In her interview Nadya acknowledged that she was 'fixated' about having a huge family. Though she knew of the challenges of having more babies with six young children to care for, she wanted to use the embryos she had and never thought that all of them would develop, she said.
'The most I would have ever anticipated would have been twins,' she said.

This isn't only the state of California's problem because the entire United States pays for welfare. If a woman is on welfare she should be made to limit children to two or less and it should be mandatory to have surgical steps taken so she will not keep having children. This country has to many people living off of welfare when they are capable of working. I can't imagine with the economy like it is today what people who really need help are going to do. Some women make a good living off of welfare by having more and more children.
This is exactly the type of social problem that has warranted the need for I.Q. testing and now, let me hear from any of you out there who disagree with that.

Whereas I agree that there are too many people on Welfare in the 'Welfare Culture' that has been created... I have to disagree about the proposed surgery. Taking mandatory surgical steps is going a bit far (we're not China who will force medical surgeries on you at their will). Once you take that step, it's a slippery slope... where does it end? I would have thought that mandatory lobotomy's for some patients and criminals would have taught us a lesson on this topic.
Mandatory IQ testing to have children? Let's take another jaunt through history. Back in the early 1900's there was a scientific fad called Eugenics. The basic premise was that society had grown so capable of supporting itself that those that wouldn't have survived hundreds of years earlier were now able to and they were lowering the quality of the gene pool. Many prominent government officials, including Theodore Rooselvent, Woodrow Wilson & Winston Churhhill signed on to the notion whether they acted on it or not. Of course, we all know that this came to a head when Adolf Hitler, a huge proponent of it sought to create his perfect society and eradicate undesirables from humanity. After WWII, history all but forgot that Eugenics went far beyond nazi Germany. Any mandatory IQ tests for child birth are essentially a legistlated form of eugenics and is 100% against what this country stands for, which is freedom.

There are not enough hours in the day to keep all these children clean not to mention cooking for them and then keeping kitchen and rest of the home clean. These are children who need lots of guidance and direction and one on one attention but in this scenerio there is no time for any of that. The doctor should have his license revoked and be required by law to pay for their support. Pity all 14 of these poor children.
There is no 'miracle' about it. It is the abuse of fertility drugs that caused the embryo to produce these abominations of nature.
Her doctor ought to be banned from practicing medicine and brought up on criminal charges.
And if there is no law banning abuse of fertility drugs, then there ought to be.

The monies she has spent on plastic surgery would have best served caring for her children and their bleak,improvised [ depending,of course,on how good a agent she has } future. Maybe her God will help her,I don't think anyone should.
If the people around Nadya didn't know it before, the events of her octuplet births and subsequent revelations to the media reflect a deeply disturbed person totally divorced from reality. I am so glad that getting pregnant helped her out of one emotional hole. But the fact is that her poor choices in continuing to breed are going to end up seeing her in another, even deeper, emotional hole. And the notion that this disturbed person actually believes she will ever reach the point where she could be able to 'counsel' anyone else is laughable. I pity the children she brought into the world only to abandon them to her fantasy world.

I am tired of my tax money paying for welfare mothers and
single mothers who have more than one child. One might be a mistake More than one, is not. I worked and supported my children. If they can't support theirs, they shouldn't have them. My hands are

Anyways I think this woman is looney tunes, and needs some serious mental help. Who in their right mind says hey I have 6 kids already, and no job, let's have another baby or 8. And I do kinda agree that some kind of testing needs to be done before you can become a parent. Or a pet owner. If you can't take care of a animal, you certainly aren't going to be able to care for a baby, and probably can barely care for yourself. How about at least a mental stability test and drug testing to make sure you are a sound person, and aren't messed up on anything you shouldn't be.
And I do feel we need to clean up the gene pool a bit. It seems everywhere you turn today you hear about some messed up story of some individual that plain ole just doesn't give a F about anything, or goes and kills someone cause they looked at them the wrong way. Society is hosed, and needs some cleaning up done.
I really feel sorry for the grandmother who is overwhelmed for taking all the burden upon herself in taking care of her 6 grandchildren. Now this 'irresponsible idiot' mother of 14 is putting the burden upon society and the government (who may very well end up footing the bill in the near future). What is worse is that these children does not even know who their father is. Go out to the US Prisons and see why thousands upon thousands of citizens are locked up. They will tell you 'They do not have a father looking after them or a mentor in their life.' Thus they join gangs and into illegal drugs to ease their pain! Now this stupid and short sighted foolish mother of 14 children will let society pay for her stupidity!

Although Hitler have based some of his ideology on eugenics, an IQ intelligence test or an equivalent barrier to reproduce is not a bad idea. Look at it this way: young girls that would want children would seriously consider education first, this alone would not only bring up society, but reduce orphans directly and indirectly. This would also indirectly force boys to educate themselves, women have always controlled sex, and an educated woman would want an educated man.
No need for forced sterilization.

There are many people who have the means to give these chidren a better life. Rather than waiting for a reality show, this woman should put her kids up for adoption. She may consider sterilization so she can no longer give birth to children who she wants but does not have the means to care for them to adulthood. How sad this womans feels that ehr self worth is measured by teh number of children she ca bring into the world. They are here now, so many otehrs csn step up and adopt them. How about mandatory Depo-Provera shots (birth control given as a shot every 3 months) for women receiving public money to care for their children? It's completely reversible (unlike surgery) if they get a job (or a better job), and still protects the tax-payer from mentally ill people like Nadya Suleman.
Improved mental health care would go a long way too - and also decrease things like drug use & trade, homelessness, and domestic violence - but nobody wants to fund that.

That said, I definitely agree that this woman exercised deplorable judgement. If one wants to have a large family, one ought to take a husband who wants the same, and who has the means to support one. It's extremely selfish of her to impose on her poor mother to this extent.

The only way to discourage these kinds of incidents, that create a hugh expense for tax payers and money making scheme for those involved, is to hold those responsible for making it happen responsible for the car and feeding of the children. The doctors involved are as responsible as the inept/unconcerned mother. I think the State of California should hold the hospital financially responsible.

I think it is ridiculous what this women did but I am more shocked with the comments people have made. First off the comment about forcing women on welfare to have their tubes tied! Are you kidding me? That is a total violation of her freedom. Just because someone is on welfare at the moment doesn't mean they will be for the rest of their lives and what then? Not to mention the fact that getting your tubes tied involves unnecessary surgery and therefore unnecessary risk. All surgeries have their risks, I have permanent nerve damage to my tongue thanks to the 'simple' surgery of getting my wisdom teeth removed.
Second, IQ testing means nothing to whether or not you will be a good parent. You can be a brain surgeon, but that doesn't mean your guaranteed to be a good parent. I realize that this woman probably needs help, but a lot of generalizing is going on when this is a very specific situation.
Personally, I think child services should keep an eye on the matter. the community should help the mother to find a job and provide daycare services so she can at least have a chance to support her children. If she can't then child services needs to step in to make sure the children are placed in an appropriate environment.

This is the time that all those pro-lifers should come forward and put their money where their big mouth is. They should all help this lady out with the expenses associated in upbringing all these children. Don't ask me! There should not be IQ testing for childbearing (besides, lots of high-IQ people make poor parents as well), however, before there is use of resources for IN VITRO fertilization for an unmarried unemployed Mom of 6 children, there should be so sort of psychiatric testing as well as financial planning done. Mom should be able to show she's got a plan on how to support the children besides, 'oh my Mom will help out'.

Oh yeah, the Depo-Provera would also prevent the YFZ Ranch/FLDS people from being funded by the rest of us - per Dateline (couldn\'t find it online, saw it months ago, sorry), all of those mom\'s are \'single mother\'s\' and get welfare to fund their deviant behavior and child abuse...on top of the gov. contracts we award them (per CNN, can't post links. Let the doctor who allowed this to happen, pay for the 8 children's food, clothing and education.
Literally, poor grandparents. This will bring scrutiny to the children's care (and perhaps it should), and they may lose their grandchildrne to state protective services. They seem be the ones who would be most affected by any loss. The mother seems to care more about having babies than taking care of the babies.
Just make the doctor support the children. He is from Beverly Hills. He can pay for nannies, as it is clear this woman could not take care of a cat.
Perhaps not IQ testing, but maybe the doctor should recommend a patient who requests in-vitro after already having 4 or so children to have psychological testing just to make sure that the person who requested the fertilization was sound of mind. That seems more agreeable than the IQ testing suggestion which can be easily compared to eugenics and seems a bit more oppressive.
Is there any doubt that Nadya will be getting pregnant again? Let' hope that she doesn't choose to have multiple births. I feel sorry not only for the children, none of whom will have a normal upbringing, but for Nadya's parents, who are obviously burdened emotionally, financially, and practically by Nadya's 'assembly line' approach to bringing children into this world. I think that she should be subject to a competency hearing in court, which would have her affairs (including her right to seek and more IVF) under the supervision of a court-appointed guardian.
Eugenics, and mental/psychiatric testing have nothing to do with IV fertilization. We're not talking about preventing this restraint-challenged woman from reproducing... we're talking about preventing foolish people like her from over-indulgent, superfluous procedures. We don't need parents (who can't financially, mentally, and physically take care of such children) becoming baby factories simply for the sensational attention or because of a mental over-reaction/illness. She really should be counseled to give the eight up for adoption... since the six she already has are a large burden already. This kind of procedure, and especially 'over-procedure' -should- be regulated... and that is -not- 'eugenics'. What the bleeding rights people are referring to is the outright prohibition of any children to 'less than fit' parents... not this egregious excess of IVF record setting births. What this woman is doing is deplorable. In my opinion she had this 'litter' in order to find some kind of financial gain in the process. She got plastic surgery (which she denies, Ha!) to make herself look like Angelina Jolie (the resemblence is too obvious), then went to every fertility specialist she could in order to find one that would agree to her self-serving plot to gain national attention and monetary gains. I did not watch the airing of her interview and 'sideshow' of those babies, because that's exactly what she wants. I truly believe those babies should be taken from her and allowed to be adopted by families who can't have children, and she should be boycotted. I would not purchase any book or waste my time on providing her any amount of that 15 mins of fame she craves. Kudos to her mother for speaking out and that wretched daughter should be made to pay her mother for the child care she's already provided.

They should have the medical/family history and provide counseling when there is an obvious questionable basis for such a procedure. All the children are now at risk due to the likely inability to provide properly for them all. Those doctors have a responsibility for bringing this about.
Octomom is actually fourteenomom. She is obviously not going to be able to provide for any - repeat, any - of these children. But if they are taken away from her to be placed in proper homes, she'll just find a way to breed more. It isn't the children that she loves, it is the 'idea' of children.

Usually the mentally disturbed, such as Nadya S., are placed onto contraceptive shots, so that they cannot become impregnated. But this woman was not even having sex -- she was being given extremely expensive implanted embryos.
EVERY single doctor that participated for all 14 of the kids MUST lose their licenses. WHY? Because she was MARRIED (until 2008!) and obviously her husband was not willing to father any of these kids!
AND WHY ELSE? SHe was unemployed! AND had no money! AND had no home!

A woman as severely disturbed as Nadya (aka Natalie) cannot control her actions or thoughts. But any doctor is supposed to be able to control his or her actions, or lose the license. Come on, California medical licensing, this is NOT funny. These doctors MUST lose their licenses.
Nadya (aka Natalie) was disabled with a back injury, married to a man who did not want her to be fertilized, unemployed, had no money, lived in a tiny house with her parents, and met no requirements for IVF -- so the doctors MUST lose their licenses - ALL the doctors.
These 14 children are going to suffer, unless they can all be put up for adoption. And the woman MUST be sterilized. FREEDOM is for those that do not abuse it to harm others.
Maybe the state can put the kids up for adoption right away, so that they can be with their new families from an early age. Someone needs to step in and end this nightmarish circus!
I think psychological counseling does have something to do with this if the woman is, by her own admission, 'fixated' on having a large family. Though we can probably argue all day on whether or not everyone who would do such an irresponsible act (having exorbitant amounts of children by in-vitro) would be caught by such a system, I suspect that this woman would have been stopped by the system would it have been implemented. Who can really know at this point, though. It's all really just speculation on my part.
This is a very messed up woman I can agree. But the fact that someone can have twins and sextuplets and then we give them a television show and all the attention for this. I'm talking about John and Kate plus eight, what did they do that was so special. My wife and I just had our first and she watched that show everyday and I could not imagine why anyone could waste there time watching someone raise a family. Yes they are married so its different in this situation, but seriously we will give anybody a show for anything these days and there is no dout in my mind this lady was waiting for the producers to line up outside her door to give her the same.
She's wants God to help here out with raising her kids? He only had one son, and we all know how that turned out!
I feel sorry for her mother who has to spend her retirement savings to care for her and her children. Someday her mother is going to wake up and realize that her life is short and if she doesn't do all that she wants to do now she may never get the chance. Afterall, she has already raised her daughter and now it is time for her to enjoy her life, rest, do hobbies, whatever your heart's desire...not change diapers, feed and burp babies, watching your life savings disappear. This daughter has never given her money for food, rent, or paid for all the hours babysitting her children. If she makes money off these kids, her mother will probably not see a dime of it. These poor children need to be adopted by others that can give them love, attention, guidance, and stability. I doubt that this mother can give this to them when she is busy with interviewing, getting herself a makeover, preparing for her movie/books...

I agree with Philodendron. A competency hearing is needed.
All of you advocating for sterilization are forgetting the First Amendment. You know that as soon as pregnancy prevention is mentioned, the Catholics get involved. Then the Mormons step in. Baptists too. Probably every other Christian demoniation in the country. I trust both Islam and Judaism will agree it's wrong. Probably every other faith in the country as well. People within the communities will disagree, but the communities themselves will most likely stand firm.
Personally, I would encourage her to get sterilized. I will not force her though.
Let's go over the FACTS here, so we can all gasp in horror:
In high school, Nadya was named Natalie Doud, and she was very homely.
After high school, she got married so some man, but they separated in 2000. She had a part-time very low level job as a psych tech and claimed to be injured, so began to collect far more disability than she ever would have been paid for doing the job.
As soon as she had the disability payments and was separated from the husband -- but still married -- she began to have ABOUT ONE BABY PER YEAR USING invitro fertilization.
She stayed married until 2008. That makes the husband legally the father of the first 6, so he should sue the heck out of all those doctors and should ALSO have enough sense to put all those 6 kids, legally his, up for adoption. They newer 8 may ALSO be legally his, if she became impregnated while still married to him. So the ex-husband MAY be the key to getting the kids out of the clutches of this crazy woman Natalie - Nadya and getting them up for adoption.
So Natalie- Nadya was busy making one baby per year, while claiming to have a terribly injured back and collecting disability for that.
AND somehow in there, she paid for (or we paid for) terribly expensive massive plastic surgery because she wanted to look like Angelina Jolie, who is also a baby-obsessed nut and unstable and not married, but at least she has money.
I know Nadya- Natalie claims she did not have plastic surgery to make her look like Angelina Jolie -- but two facts: 1) even Angelina Jolie had surgery to look like Angelina Jolie, and 2) Natalie's high school photo shows her as extremely different looking than now, and lets add a 3) We can tell plastic surgery when it is so obvious as hers is.
MY GUESS is that Natalie- Nadya had the plastic surgery WHILE pregnant with the 8 kids so that she would be ready for the reality show she so desires. ALSO, she probably was intentionally trying to have 8 kids so she could get a reality show. However, the ONLY reality show on this group that people want to see is one where the kids are all put up for adoption, Nadya is sterilized and put in a mental ward. Seriously!
SO somewhere in there, the Grandma loses the second house -- the one Nadya was obviously living in. ANd Grandma files for bankruptcy with $1 million in debt. Now let's think - -Grandma was paying for 6 kids born in just over 6 years. Grandma was taking care of the kids' housing and bills and food and everything, while Nadya busied herself with plastic surgery.
In 2008, Nadya and the husband get divorced. Then Nadya gives birth to 8 babies.
To the people saying Nadya should be helped to get a job so she can support her kids. First, a woman with 14 children does not have TIME to have a job. It would take all her time and that of about 5 or 6 full-time helpers to take care of 14 little kids.
Second, there is NO job today that can support 14 kids. ANd especially there are no such jobs for a woman with little education and ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE, no morals, no ethics.
AND to the people that are blaming this on pro-lifers: Hello. Pro-lifers do NOT believe in in vitro fertilization, they believe in natural pregnancy. Pro-lifers do not believe in storing embryos. Pro-lifers do not believe in having children without your husband. Pro-lifers do not believe in having 6 or 14 kids without a husband.
Natalie- Nadya's actions cannot be blamed on anyone other than herself and her doctors -- from the very first IVF she had back on the first kid that is now 7 years old. This woman has had 14 kids in 7 years (that is 2 per year, folks!), and doctors DID this for her!! And she was obviously not paying for it with her own money.
At least the Grandma, Angela, tried to keep the doctors from implanting more embryos -- but that was after her daughter already did it 6 times.
This has people ENRAGED and rightly so. Nadya was obviously making fraudulent disability claims and possibly other fraudulent claims. SO off to prison with Nadya and all her doctors, PLEASE! This is all so sickening. There are 14 young lives that MUST be saved from this horrible woman -- adoption is the answer. May God bless 14 hopeful couples with one child each. Or several families might adopt the sets of twins -- it sounds like there are a few sets of twins.
The state cannot allow 14 children to live in one bedroom with no means of support and only their tired (but loving) Grandmother to care for them. AND if Nadya is NOT sterilized and is allowed to roam freely, it will be only a matter of time before she is pregnant again, and that can never be allowed to happen.
I can say that I find this woman abhorent. I guess what REALLY makes me mad is that she went on a talk show and talked as if she were sane. I want my crazy people to sound crazy, But her actions are crazy and horribly destructive and disgusting.
AND someone should look into whether the marriage was also a fraud or money in exchange for citizenship or something. It makes no sense that any man would stay married to this mental case while she was having one IVF baby after another.
If the state takes the kids away this week or this month, and they get adopted really fast, they will have time to forget this craziness and move on to healthy happy lives.
What people would do for 15 minutes of fame. Donīt woory, in couple of years she would have another 6 and she would be on the news again.
I'm amazed Nadya's 'friend' and father of all 14 of her children had no idea he was involved through the first 6 births, let alone the new octuplets. I can't understand why he's overwhelmed, either. I guess if the next 8 would have come one at a time and the national press hadn't picked up on the story, he'd be fine for at least several more years.
Its just a matter of time, social service will take away her children, just keep watching the news. Some distraught and angry neighbor will call social services anonymously when he/she is fed up with the publicity and filthy home of the octuplets then you'll see social service take all 14 children away from her.
Most of society is 'damn mad' with this girl. I believe this girl had this all plan because she was able to afford to get her 'nose and lips' constructed with monies from wherever plus she was able to 'afford' to get vitro's paid for, which costs about $10,000 each pregnancy...Go figure!.

I am a widow with 4 children. My husband died when our youngest was 4 months old. Although i work casual, it is spasmodic & welfare is our bread & butter. It is not something that i like, but circumstances prevail. For me the biggest issue is that this woman is prepared to bring SO MANY children into the world without a father! It seems society finds this acceptable - I say this needs to change!!! Children need two parents to be properly balanced in later life, and i think the idea of 3 monthly conception injections is a fantastic idea for oh so many reasons... Make parents accountable BEFORE the birth, and if anyone objects on privacy grounds - I reply that after having children you have no privacy anyway!

I believe octomom is dangerous and should be watched. She's lining herself up for a meltdown. I feel bad for her parents and the kids. The doctor who IVFed her should have his/her license taken away.
