Take That feel guilty about Robbie Williams' breakdown.

The four bandmates - Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Jason Orange and Howard Donald - regret ignoring the warning signs as Robbie spiralled into drink and drugs.

Gary, 38, has confessed that when Robbie went off the rails in 1995, there was "a series of events we should have spotted".

He said: "That's my one regret. I missed the signs. I think we all did."

Howard - who admits to dabbling in drugs when he was in the band - confronted 34-year-old Robbie about his problems.

He told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "I spoke to Robbie about it last summer. I said I was sorry I never took the time to notice he was drinking a bottle of vodka a day.

"We smoked weed and giggled like idiots. Before Take That I dabbled with drugs watching Sasha DJ in Ashton-under-Lyne. LSD mainly.

"I feel quite proud now I don't take drugs and hardly drink - but Robbie was different. He has a more addictive personality, maybe, and he was unhappy."

The band are still hopeful Robbie - who spent time in rehab and now lives in Los Angeles - will rejoin them eventually.

Howard explained: "I think it will happen one day."
