The actor insists smooching the Scottish star was the highlight of making new film 'I Love You Phillip Morris'.
He joked: "It was a dream come true. I mean, look at the guy!"
The dramatic comedy is based on the true story of Texas con artist Steve Russell, played by Carrey, and his love for cellmate Phillip Morris, portrayed by McGregor. After years suppressing his true sexuality, Russell comes out of the closet and launches into a life of high living - eventually landing himself in jail.
After falling in love with Morris in prison, Russell can't bear it when his lover is released and attempts to break out of jail four times so they can be reunited.
Carrey has admitted several of his friends warned him against taking on the role of a gay man, but the actor - who is dating former Playboy Playmate Jenny McCarthy - felt comfortable in his own sexuality to accept the part.
The 47-year-old star said: "If I were to be honest, there were a few people in my world that were like 'Are you sure you want to do this?'
"I said 'absolutely', because sexual proclivity aside, it's still a story about human beings that's so compelling, so interesting and so different."
