The Oscar winner, whose third album, Intuition, hits stores today, stopped by the “Extra” studios to chat with Mario Lopez. Foxx exclaimed, “We got T.I., T Payne, Timberlake, Kanye West, Lil Wayne.” Fans looking for something different from his last album will be pleased. Foxx commented, “We really wanted to make sure the uptempo records would get us in the clubs because with Unpredictable, it was a lot of ballads.”
Also, Foxx couldn’t stop praising President-elect Barack Obama. He commented, “He is the smoothest cat…Wow! It was amazing to see what he did and to see that in America, there was no racial factor…He brings great hope!” When asked about the “first pet,” Foxx laughed, “He [Obama] should get a pit bull – keep it black.”
As for watching Obama accept the Presidential nomination, Foxx said, “I was in Miami in Timberland’s studio. There were eight brothers with me. There were tears in their eyes… I looked at my brother differently…It elevated the responsibility of me.”
Foxx told Lopez that he’s heading to Washington, D.C. for the inauguration saying, “I’m going there. Oprah is doing something, Will [Smith] is doing something. I think everybody wants to be around that energy.”
Foxx became good friends with Tom Cruise on the set of their movie, Collateral, but they actually met at an audition years before. Foxx said, “I still keep in touch with Tom Cruise…I got to read for Jerry Maguire and I stunk it up…Embarrassing moment after embarrassing moment..”
Foxx was asked if he still keeps in touch with his In Living Color co-star Jennifer Lopez, he responded, “I saw JLo not too long ago. Anytime we see each other, we have this common bond because we started out together.”
Foxx spoke candidly about the tragedy that struck friend and Dreamgirls co-star Jennifer Hudson saying, “We keep our hopes up for her… She’s healing herself…getting herself together. What can you say?” As for recording with Hudson, he admitted, “I would love to go out on the road with Jennifer.”
“Extra’s” interview with Jaime Foxx airs tonight.
