Madonna has been accused of "inciting impure thoughts".

The '4 Minutes' singer performed in Chile for the first time last night (10.12.08) but came under fire for her raunchy image ahead of the show from a retired senior church figure.

Speaking at a mass for late dictator Augusto Pinochet, Roman Catholic Cardinal Jorge Medina Estevez said she had arrived in the country "in an incredibly shameless manner".

The cardinal - who was previously chosen to announce the election of Pope Benedict XV - blasted: "This woman comes here and in an incredibly shameless manner, she provokes a crazy enthusiasm, an enthusiasm of lust, lustful thoughts, impure thoughts."

More than 120,000 people are expected to see the singer perform during her stay in Chile, performing at Santiago's Estadio Nacional for two nights, where fans camped out for more than three days in order to secure good spots at the show.

The 50-year-old star has been attacked by the Catholic Church several times in her career, most notably over her controversial 'Like A Prayer' video which featured imagery such as burning crucifixes, stigmata and a black Jesus.

In both 1987 and 1990, Pope John Paul II called for a boycott of Madonna's tours.
