The 30-year-old actor - who can next be seen starring alongside Sean Penn in political drama 'Milk' - thinks the life and works of the legendary Italian artist would make an interesting film.
He said: "I'm surprised no one's made a picture about Leonardo da Vinci's life. He's got a pretty extraordinary life of accomplishment and achievement so maybe that's good idea."
James, who shares some gay love scenes with Sean in 'Milk', also revealed he was slightly nervous before shooting the scenes, but Sean soon helped him calm down.
James - who shot to fame playing James Dean in a TV biopic in 2001 - added to Fox News: "I've known Sean for a while and he's just like a great actor to work with, he's really kind of giving. He can be a really intense guy, but on set he's a team player, he's very dedicated but he just makes every body feel very comfortable."
