Dallas Stars' player Sean Avery said some regrettable things about his ex Elisha Cuthbert, and the NHL isn't having it.

Reporters who recorded the remarks noted even Avery's teammates were appalled by his comments. The Stars ownership answered without mincing words.
"I completely support the league's decision to suspend Sean Avery," team owner Thomas Hicks said in a statement. "Had the league not have suspended him, the Dallas Stars would have. This organization will not tolerate such behavior, especially from a member of our hockey team. We hold our team to a higher standard and will continue to do so."
Avery had a reputation as the most hated NHL player even prior to signing with Dallas.
The Los Angeles Kings traded Avery to the New York Rangers before he wound up in Dallas.
The remark that landed the Canadian left-winger in hot water was over Cuthbert to her new boyfriend, Calgary Flames player Dion Phaneuf.
Avery reportedly said: "I just want to comment on how it's become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don't know what that's about. Enjoy the game tonight."
Avery is out pending a hearing with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.
