The Killers are bringing a new angle to the nativity story with their Christmas single.
The 'Human' rockers have teamed up with Sir Elton John and Pet Shop Boys star Neil Tennant for 'Joseph, Better You Than Me', and the band's frontman Brandon Flowers says he wanted to offer a new perspective on the biblical Christmas story.
He explained: "I was sitting at the piano playing around with different chords and I started thinking about Joseph. I don't know, would you call him Jesus' stepfather?
"When you think of Joseph, the only thing that comes to mind is Joseph walking next to a donkey with Mary on it, and that's about it. He doesn't get much of a story, so we tried to bring Joseph to life."
The track is being released to raise money for (RED)WIRE, a new music service which will benefit people infected with HIV or AIDS in Africa.
Subscribers pay $5 for a weekly newsletter - with which they receive an exclusive track from a major recording artist and one from an emerging artist - including updates on Africa, photographs and video shorts.
Half the subscription rate goes to The Global Fund, which provides medicine to African patients, with a focus on women and children.
Other artists to donate tracks include Coldplay, who have given their much-hyped duet with Kylie Minogue 'Lhuna', Jay-Z's 'Brooklyn Go Hard' and U2, who have covered Greg Lake's festive classic 'I Believe In Father Christmas'.
Speaking about (RED)WIRE, U2 frontman Bono said: "Through music people are not just celebrating their life, they are celebrating lives and the saving of them."
The site officially launches on December 10. Anyone who signs up for the service before then will be regarded as a 'founder member' and given an exclusive bonus track.
