Mel B's 60k auction

Oct 31, 2008, 5:00 GMT

Mel B has raised £60,000 for charity by auctioning some of her Spice Girls memorabilia.

The singer put various items from her time in the legendary girl band up for sale to raise money for children's cancer charity CLIC Sargent.

Most notably, a 16ft-long bespoke table, complete with 16 chairs - which featured on MTV show 'Cribs' - raised a staggering £3,260 for the worthy cause after a bidding war erupted between two interested parties.

Speaking about the success of the auction, Mel said: "I am thrilled that so many people around the world got involved with the Mel B sale and that such a fantastic amount of money has been raised for CLIC Sargent."

Jeremy Lune, Head of Retail at CLIC Sargent, added: "The interest generated by the sale was enormous, and far more than we could had expected. It shows the love which people hold for Mel B that they were prepared to pay hundreds, even thousands of pounds, for a bikini or a trouser suit.

"We are absolutely thrilled at the amazing amount that the sale has raised and are overwhelmed by Mel B's generosity".

Other items sold included the fake fur outfit Mel wore in the ''Who Do You Think You Are' music video, which raised £600, her personal Bechstein Baby Grand Piano complete with matching white leather piano stool, sold for £9,000, and the tribal necklace she wore in the 'Say You'll Be There' promo.

Further items from Mel's memorabilia collection, including a chess set, Dolce and Gabbana boots and a motorbike, will be sold at auction in December. Details can be found on melbsale.com.
