Ex Baseball star Jose Canseco was detained for nearly 10 hours by immigration authorities after agents said they confiscated a fertility drug as Canseco returned from Mexico, his lawyer said in a statement Friday.

Canseco was detained at San Diego's San Ysidro border crossing Thursday after agents conducted a search of his vehicle which netted a cache of human chorionic gonadotropin, which is illegal without a prescription, said his attorney, Gregory Emerson.
The New York Daily News reported that Emerson declined to say if Canseco had the drug, which is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency for use in men.
A spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Virginia Kice, said Canseco was ordered to appear in federal court in San Diego "related to an alleged smuggling violation" Thursday at a U.S. border crossing.
Canseco has not been charged with a crime, Kice said. If so, it would happen at his court appearance.
