Emily Leatherman pleaded no contest yesterday to a felony count of stalking the actor as part of a deal that will spare her serving any jail time.
Last spring, Cusack accused Leatherman of throwing over his fence a bag containing love letters, rocks and screwdrivers. Sheriff's officials confirmed that Leatherman threw a bag onto Cusack's property, but they declined to say what it contained.
Deputies were flagged down by Cusack, who told them he recognized the woman (Leatherman) in the cab and that she had been stalking him.
Leatherman, 33, was booked on suspicion of felony stalking, violating a restraining order and petty theft. Leatherman, was booked at the Malibu-Lost Hills station, in Calabasas.
“She was arrested and had violated a previous restraining order taken out against her by Mr. Cusack,” Sheriffs' spokesperson Mr. Whitmore said.
People reports that a Los Angeles Superior Court judge ended a would-be plea deal after determining that the woman did not willingly accept the bargain.
Now reports are that Leatherman has accepted the original deal: five years' probation, mandatory psychiatric counseling and steering clear of Cusack's homes and businesses for the next 10 years.
Leatherman, claimed that she sought Cusack's "help", telling the court she was only wanting to ask Cusack for help after falling victim to a sex crime.
She has been behind bars since March, when she was arrested near the star's Malibu home.
