If i had a band, i'd never discourage my audience to take off their clothes! I might even encourage it, as a band (i don't remember its name) from Spain is planning to do (IIRC).
“Our striptease should have been a compliment to Wilson, not an insult”
Wild Croatian girls from the British band’s Zagreb concert audience, Sara Ercegović, Sunčana Batić and Eva Badanjak, are members of a post punk demo band ˇ/BUKA
ZAGREB - Three girls, members of a demo band by the name of ˇ/BUKA Sara Ercegović, Sunčana Batić and Eva Badanjak found the British band frontman appalled by their striptease at the Kaiser Chiefs' Zagreb concert. They found out that they shocked him with their going topless from the Jutarnji list newspapers. It said in the article that he never before experienced girls stripping at one of his concerts.
- It was disconcerting. I was alerted to it by the flashing around them - basically men with camera phones taking pictures. They weren't looking at the stage they were dancing with each other. I immediately asked them to put their clothes back on and start enjoying the music properly.
- We had not heard that he said anything or that he was saying something to us. Unbelievable that we spontaneously took our tops off and that he found it to be an insult instead of a compliment.
- What is much more important happened before the concert. We just made our first demo recording and the cover shows a topless female model. We went to the Kaiser Chiefs concert to celebrate and promote our demo and Eva just happened to take her top off, because she is always the first one to do something like that and we just followed. First people made some room around us and then some men approached and asked if they could take photos. A girl joined us dancing, whose boyfriend later took pictures with us. Besides, men take their T-shirts at concerts often enough, why wouldn’t we - says the 26 year old Sara from Split, the band’s drummer.
- There has not been any special reactions from our families to the picture published on the 'T' internet portal, continues Sunčana who studies modern design in Zagreb with Eva. They already published the whole thing on their myspace website. Also, they intend to contact the unusually conservative rocker Wilson.
- We just hope that no-one will expect us to strip at our concerts, we do not do anything with a plan anyway. On and off stage we are as we are and if I do something, it is a thing of the moment and atmosphere, and not a planned performance, says Sunčana, who plays bass in postpunk psychodelic ˇ/BUKA and Eva on the guitar. They are preparing a concert at the Girl Power festival in Koprivnica on the 14th and Zagreb club Spunk on the 24th of October.
