NFL receiver Chad Johnson has changed his name after a life-altering experience at a Cuban festival.
He now is called Ocho Cinco, a name that his head coach hates.
ESPN reports that the Cincinnati Bengals receiver has legally changed his name to Chad Javon Ocho Cinco in Broward County, Fla., a switch that became official this week.
“It’s something I don’t think anyone has ever done before,” he told the team’s Web site. “Have I ever had a reason for why I do what I do? I’m having fun.”
The website claims that Johnson decided to take the name (No. 85) —and put it on the back of his uniform before a game. Quarterback Carson Palmer reportedly ripped it off before the kickoff.
Coach Marvin Lewis was reported to refer to the receiver as “Ocho Psycho.”
Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan told ESPN the Bengals had no comment on the matter.
Polish festival? He'd be known as Osiem Pięć.
Had Chad attended a Greek festival, he may have been called: οκτω πεντε
Italian Festival? Columbus Day? He'd be Otto Cinque
