McCain said they released the news to knock down the hateful rumors being circulated. Well, HELLO, there have been plenty of those circulating around Obama too, so what else is new? They might as well have brought it out front and center as obviously it would get out anyway. I'm sure the party will really use the fact that the family didn't abort the special needs baby and now that their young daughter is going to keep hers and get married. That's to be commended, but just hope they don't carry that too far in trying to act so righteous in these decisions.

Wonder if this has anything to do with the McCain campaign's obsession with celebrities like Brittney Spears (or, rather, Jamie Lynn). Oops . . .

Hilary Clinton has got to be lovin' this Sarah Palin Labor Day (no pun intended) breaking news special: This much tawdry, tacky, trashy spin around Palin and she's been on the VP ticket for a mere three days. ... And John McCain, the corner-on-character candidate senator: Country first, Senator? That's not the way it appears. Populist pandering is turning this great nation into a laughing stock.

Why did McCain not speak up?Sep 1st, 2008 - 18:40:43

Since McCain clearly knew about it (after the initial vetting, when it SHOULD have been picked up) - why did his campaign hold back the news?

By not announcing it quickly, McCain has let all kinds of rumors fester, and he's done his own VP pick a disservice.

Let me propose Obama's argument - and he should make it quickly:

'We've had 8 years of lies from Bush and Cheney, and McCain is running as an agent of change. By not coming forth with his own statement, and hiding the facts, McCain comes off as just another person keeping the truth from the public - and we've had ENOUGH of THAT!

What Governor Palin and her family decide is their private business, and their willing inclusion of this out-of-wedlock birth into their family is a great example of how other families should behave in such circumstances. Children should also have birth control education available, to avoid this sort of unplanned event from happening in the first place. Bringing a child into the world should be something intentional, and looked forward to and not something to be covered up.'

I love how politicians want privacy for their kids while trotting them out in the public to promote their agendas and ambitions. Bristol should have privacy. And her mother should have thought twice about running for VP with all this going on to ensure that.

The problem I have with all of this is not the teenage pregnancy, but Sarah Palin's willingness to put her own ambition ahead of her family. She has 5 kids, one of whom is a tiny baby with Down Syndrome, not to mention the grandbaby-on-the-way.

This family needs their mother AT HOME... not running around jet-setting with politicians. Palin has thrust this poor girl Bristol into the international spotlight in a very negative way.... all because of her own ambition. How selfish.

WHAT KIND OF MOTHER would do that to her child?? To her children?

I am NOT impressed with the Palin family, not the parents anyway. For Sarah to say she's PROUD to become the grandmother of an out-of-wedlock child born to her underage daughter is totally hypocritical.

Sarah, I guess your message of abstinence fell on deaf ears. I feel so sorry for Bristol, having a mother like you. How very, very sad.

Bristol's and the father's ages when they engaged in sex is an important question, considering the law: 'The age of consent is defined as 16 years old, according to Alaska statutory rape laws. If a person who is at least 18 years old engages in sexual activity with a person who is 16 years old or younger, he or she will be charged with sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree. This charge is a felony in Alaska. And remember, it does not matter if you did not force or threaten the other person into performing this sexual act with you. It is still a crime under Alaska statutory rape laws.'

Her daughter is already in the national spotlight. She is a celebrity by association with her mother. Privacy is no longer pertinent.

Without going into her daughter, however, the main problem is her mother.

Sarah Palin is a neglectful mother. Period.

She put her children last.

The more children she has, the more neglectful she becomes.

What role model do you have as president for 'Family Values' when she herself is hypocritical?

I think it's wonderful a pro life woman delivers a downs syndrome baby and then lets her teenage daughter get pregnant. Isn't that what pro life is all about? I wonder when Palin and her husband are dead who will care for the Down's syndrome adult. I wonder how Bristol will do as a mother with no HS diploma and probably no college degree. God Bless the Palins. They truly represent John McCain's America.

I am disgusted that Sarah Palin's idea of being a 'Feminist' is knowingly giving birth to a special needs child, and gutting a moose. Wow! Feminism like hers will take women back 100 plus years, to the day when it was illegal for women to even be told about birth control...but then of course, she has the proof in the pudding, if she looks at her own family. Who can we thank for this? Gosh, but I think McCain must have some early senility issues appearing. Of course he'd choose someone in a skirt. (Have you examined his personal history? Look how he met his current wife.) As for Palin's requesting privacy for her family...I don't think so,privacy doesn't go with the job as a prerequisite. Perhaps she should have thought of that last week, before she accepted the nomination. Maybe, if we ask nicely we can get her recipe for Moose Stew.

Bristol's boyfriend Levi describes himself as a f***ing redneck.

He states on his MySpace page that he does not want kids.

He likes to raise hell with his boys and fish, play ice hockey ...

Palin is the ultimate redneck mommy, she raised her daughter with her family values, irresponsibility and a complete lack of foresight or the future, sacrificing it and making a mockery of intelligent child-rearing.

Palin should be hanging her head in shame. Her addition to th McCain ticket is a bigger liability than the GOP realizes.

I feel very sorry for Palin's daughter. She has been set up to be under the most intense publicity that she could NEVER imagine. I don't care if she's pregnant or not, and it shouldn't really have any bearing as far as the pick of VP is concerned. My concern is the lack of Palin's thinking about how this whole mess will affect Bristol, and, unfortunately, it's far from over. The father-to-be has shown his lack of being grown up with his rants on my space, and his actions aren't going to be controlled by the party. Like it or not, the public will be inundated with a daily update on all of this. It is an extremely unfortunate situation.
