Kiefer Sutherland says he learned from his mistakes in jail.
The 41-year-old actor - who was jailed for 48 days in December 2007 for driving under the influence of alcohol - admits his time in prison gave him time to reflect properly on where his life was headed.
Kiefer - star of hit US TV show '24' - said: "While I was there, I took the time to think about why I was making mistakes. I was disappointed with some decisions I had made. But I've learned from them and moved on."
Kiefer insists despite his reputation, he has never let his social habits affect his career.
He added: "I like to go out and have a good time, but I've never been late for work in my life."
Kiefer also blasted the acting industry, saying stars are paid too much money while other members of society are overlooked.
He said: "The kind of money generated around the industry is way out of proportion. The admiration bestowed on actors is also out of perspective. Doctors are the stars of our society - people like my grandfather who was responsible for health care in Canada - as well as teachers, firefighters and police officers."
