Comedian and actor Bernie Mac was hospitalized in Chicago for pneumonia.

"Mr. Mac is responding well to treatment and will be released soon," Mac's publicist told People in a statement. "He asked that his privacy and that of his family is respected while he gets well."
Reportedly the pneumonia is not related to a previously diagnosed condition of sarcoidosis, an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in organs such as the lungs or lymph nodes.
People reports that Mac, 50, is in remission from sarcoidosis since 2005 when he publicly announced he had the disease for the previous two decades.
