Juliette Binoche became an actress because she wanted to be loved.
The 'Chocolat' star - who won an Oscar for her role in 1996 movie 'The English Patient' - admits the only reason she got into the industry is because of her profound desire to "please" people.
She said: "When I started as an actress, I wanted to please so much. I think we all need to be loved. When we fail, we are very, very hurt and behave in such a way that nobody is going to love us. There's a moment when you are jumping into the trust and you don't know if you will be loved or not.
"You've got to dare to allow for not being loved - if you don't dare that, you are not an artist."
Juliette - who will soon be starring in a dance show with British dancer and choreographer Akram Khan - also revealed she found it "weird" learning to dance because it is such a physically intimate process.
She added to Britain's Film Quarterly magazine: "In film, we have to get intimate very quickly. You are showing your soul - you have to get naked, sometimes physically but mostly emotionally. Dancers don't really get involved emotionally that much because it would be too much - they are close physically all the time, the body becomes like a tool.
"To put emotion and body together - it's a weird experience because it's a very intimate relationship."
