The seven-figure sum is being claimed by photographer Josh Levine, who alleges the actor assaulted him two years ago.
Levine filed a suit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday (20.06.08) claiming Harrelson choked him and damaged his video camera before getting his bodyguard to attack him.
The bodyguard is also being sued for his part in the incident, which is said to have took place in June 2006.
At the time, Levine was working for celebrity news website TMZ.com. He was videoing Harrelson in Hollywood when the alleged assault took place.
The photographer says he is still suffering mental, physical and emotional traumas from the attack.
Meanwhile, a number of photographers were allegedly involved in an altercation on Saturday (21.06.08) as they tried to take pictures of 'Fool's Gold' actor Matthew McConaughey surfing.
A group of surfers began pushing the paparazzi and ordered them to leave Paradise Cove, in Malibu.
According to reports, McConaughey - who is friends with Harrelson - wasn't involved in the incident.
Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said: "There was apparently a fight, and a photographer gave a statement saying he received injuries."
