Paul Newman turns over company stake to Newman's Own charity

More reasons to simply love Paul Newman. The Connecticut-based actor has privately turned over the entire value of his ownership in Newman’s Own — the charity donating food company that turns out delicious organic foods — to his charitable Newman’s Own Foundation.

A file pictured dated 04 May 2006 shows Hollywood legend Paul Newman during a dinner in Florence's Feroni Palace to honour him and his Foundation, during a stay to tour the site where his first Italian camp for seriously ill children was being built. Citing health concerns, Paul Newman stepped down 23 May 2008 as the director of a play based on the John Steinbeck classic Of Mice and Men at a regional theatre in Connecticut where his wife Joan Woodward is the artistic director. EPA/CARLO FERRARO Fox news reports that during a two-year period between 2005-2006, "the amount of the donation is said to be somewhere around $120 million."We previously reported Newman is ailing, and his camp is keeping quiet and putting a brave face and positive spin on the private matter. We wish him and his family all the best.From Fox:“According to Newman’s Own federal tax filing for 2006, the actor personally gave away $8,746,500 to a variety of groups that support children, hurricane relief in the Gulf Coast, education and the arts. But don’t think that Newman — who received his Kennedy Center honor in 1992 and deserves a Presidential Medal of Freedom — did this because he suddenly thought he was dying. When he set up the new foundation, he hadn’t yet been diagnosed with lung cancer. It was just in honor of his 80th birthday, and an acknowledgment that he wanted to make sure his charities would continue receiving his largesse.”Newman is an iconic American actor who has starred in some of the best films ever made, including "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," "Cool Hand Luke," "The Sting", "The Hustler", "The Verdict" and hundreds of others.
