Actress Susan Sarandon has vowed to move abroad if Senator John McCain is elected to the Presidency of the United States.
Columnist Liz Smith reports that the comely Sarandon, who will be 62 this year, is not pleased at the idea of another Republican regime occupying the White House.
Sarandon, who has been working regularly in films like "Speed Racer" and TV movies such as "Bernard and Doris," for HBO, told Smith she won't have it.
Smith claims the outspoken liberal Sarandon says that if John McCain is elected, that she will move to Italy or Canada.
Sarandon tells Smith, "It's a critical time, but I have faith in the American people."

Is that a promise?
Don't let the door hit you in the ### you socialist shill
Didn't she say that the last time a Republican was elected?
Every 4 years we hear this from the usual gang of idiots - Sarandon, Robbins, Baldwin, etc... They are so convinced of their self-importance and so full of pretentious self-righteousness (like most leftists) that they really think people give a damn what they do or do not do. Talk about ego.
I'll believe it when I see it. Don't forget to take little Alec with you...
Someone needs to tell her that Canada is ruled by the Conservative Stephen Harper and Italy's PM is Silvio Berlusconi. It's clear that without a script she should just smile and shut he maw.
lol @ the comments.
/farewell old lady.
Arrivederci Susan!
Is that a Promise? I hope so! Take that liar Alec Baldwin with you. He reneged on his similar promise.
That's enough reason to vote McCain. Can't wait to see her leave.
Yeah, yeah. Promises, promises. Ya just can't count on these far-left wackos.
I was undecided but now it's clear: Go John McCain!
Your plane is now boarding.
Will you be giving up your citizenship before you leave, or are you still going to want all the benefits and luxuries of being in the USA yet not living here.
Susan,
Please leave. Who cares? You should look up Gwyneth Paltrow. She's ashamed of America too.
Well Susan... no time like the present... might as well avoid the rush.
If she's looking to escape a conservative McCain administration, it's strange she'd consider as her first choices Italy, where Berlusconi and his Forza Italia just regained the Prime Minister's seat, and Canada, where Harper and his Conservative Party also are in power. Thus is the ridiculousness of Sarandon. I remember there were a lot of celebrities in the 04 presidential election who said that if Bush was reelected, they'd leave the country. I don't think many of them did. Why are they still here? These celebrities....they talk the talk....it's time they walk the walk.
Republicans suck, its time for a democrat unfortuanetly Obama but its better then the U.S going into a recession.
Glad to hear it.
The problem is she will never actually do it. If Obama wins, she'll claim victory and brag that America now thinks like her (and hubby Tim Robbins) which sadly will only inflate their already bloated egos. And obviously they do have bloated egos -- I mean seriously, who cares if she makes a proclamation like this? What, the idea of America losing Susan Sarandon is supposed to make me vote for Obama? As if I just couldn't live without her (or him) being here? I have news for you, Susan (and Tim): I wouldn't even notice you were gone! And if beMcCain wins...and you can lay a Vegas bet on this...she'll never leave. They'll both turn right around and say 'Well, now it's our obligation to stay and fight the good fight some more' or some garbage like that. Sarandon and Robbins are all talk, no action.
will she renounce her citizenship? not likely. she is trying to be hot s**t. well the day she renounces her citizenship i will give her my respect. what a joke!
Susan, Do you need help packing your bags? GET OUT!
When you get to where ever you can find worshipers, stop by your local U. S. Embassy, step up to the counter and sign and oath of renunciation. Don't forget your passport. Put up or shut up!
Go ahead and move you dumb bitch. McCain will be elected. But, like all of your other threats, you don't have the guts to follow through on this one either. You'll find some excuse to weasel out of it.
The only thing you think is worth fighting for is the right for a woman to kill her own baby.
Bush has been president since Jan. 2001, so Susan, what's the holdup?
take sp4 along
They said they were going to leave if Bush got re-elected.
What happened?
I know, moving is a pain in the butt.
How will we ever go on?
Why would I leave? I love this country, even with an Obama in charge. Then again I am not an ignorant, bigoted, elitist, sychophantic, provincial show business personality, with delusions of godhood.
I, like most of commentators here, will gladly help you pack.
They promised in 2000.
They promised in 2004.
We can only hope the third time does the trick. Hey, it's not like it's hard to get there. Walk north.
One less Hollywood idiot left in the country. Tell the idiot she is free to leave now. I will be there at the airport to wave her goodbye.
Actually if she takes her moron husband as well we will be so much better off...two Hollywood idiots down...how many more will make my day.
After considerable thought I've decided that I simply don't care if Sarandon moves to Canada, Italy, or the moon for that matter. Thus, McCain's still my guy.
What is it with these people who are proud of their country only if their cadidate is elected? M. Obama can join S. Sarandan in her quest for a country for which she is proud.
Oh no, a threat. Please please don't leave us. What will we do without you? Just kidding. Go ahead and leave. Believe it or not, no one will know or care. I've got other things to think about, and you aren't one of them.
Don't let the screen door hit you on your way out!
Liz Smith is an old goat of a gossip columnist. Maybe Sarandon said it or not or maybe it was just something to say - like we don't all say something a little sarcastic once in a while. Anyway, it sure got people riled up over something pretty simple.
Oh, how terribly tragic. I just couldn't imagine life without Susan Sarandon... (*rolls eyes*) I'm so sick and tired of these celebrities thinking that their opinions are so incredibly valuable. Get over yourself, Susan, and move already!
Why wait, leave now.
Well, crap. I had no plans of voting for McCain but Susan may have changed my mind. No matter who wins this election we all lose but if she promises to leave the country that would be, at least, a small consolation.
Sarandon leaving the country is all well and good but who cares? She's insignificant. I want people who matter to make that promise. For instance if the anti-american Hussein & Michelle Obama themselves promised it's either the White House or Canada then THAT would certainly insure I get to the voting booth to vote for McCain. The only hesitation I have is that I really shouldn't be wishing something bad on Canada...
Ah-HA! So, she'll move out if McCain wins, but she stayed here for the 8 years of President Bush. That's plenty of proof Sarandon approves of him.
It be real nice if we could get that in writing please. Don't you think? Take care.
Peace To All
China, Cuba, Laos, North Korea or Vietnam would suite her better. But than again, Afganistan and Iran offer nice dry sunny weather. Don't forget to take Babs, I'm still waiting.
That's fine with me Susan, Go right ahead. It's much more important for the people of my wonderful country to be defended from our enemies both foreign and domestic, as is called for as the responsibility of our commander-in-chief, than for Americans to give two shits whether Susan Sarandon and her family are within 5000 miles of the rest of us.
Knock yourself out, both you and Tim R. if you like and start packing right now. I myself plan not only to vote for John, a time-tested defender of this great country, but an experienced international advisor, but also to campaign hard for his election. Thank God we have more of a choice than the (very junior ) senator Obama or the very shifty and under-experienced Hillary Rodham Clinton!!!!!!
Why wait? Leave now. Please!
Susan going to Canada? Shoot! I will pack her bags for her and drive her there and let her out at the border. And I am an Obama fan. Please leave Susan.
She is not going anywhere...McCain was the songbird of Hanoi, check it out on the net. His old-man was an Admiral in the Navy, who always had little McCain's officer fitness report padded or well orchestrated to move his son along........ALOT of Vietnam Vets hate this guy. After all the reading on the net most of you will to. I would like to see her mover out of the country also, but as more and more on McCain talking to the commies to keep him from being torchered, he will not be elected.................
And so it is.................
Funny, I said the same thing before the last election if Bush got in again, and I have spent quite a bit of time touring all around Canada- does that count? People need to get over this!! It's probably just a remark like we've all made about something!
McCain is a damn war hero - for the guys knocking him, show some respect, what the hell have you done for anyone? For the guy blaming Bush for the recession - join the long list of Blame Bush for Everything coalition. The economic slow down (not recession) is caused because dems in congress won't let anyone drill for oil in this country, or build a refinery, or setup nuclear power - but force us to grow tons of corn for ethanol (which pollutes worse) - no room to plant rice or soy, corn/rice/soy prices go thru the roof, and oil and gas prices surge from worldwide demand - and the rest of the world starves. Sarandon can get the hell out now and eat up all the rice from other countries, and then she'll cause them to run out of food quicker, while she complains about their government, who inevitably will not allow her to speak because they don't have freedom of speech like they do here.
McCain a war hero ?Why?
For being shot down in yet another undeclared war, bombing a country that neither declared war on the USA,nor attacked it .
At least Susan dares to speak out on her opinion, exactly like most people here attacking her,SP4 as usual first to throw mud .It would be so easy and profitable for her to behave like a clone of Paris Hilton or one of the other bimbos that never attract the republican thunder .
Just like every American she has the right to an opinion. It seems her opinion is far more intelligent than the insults the retarded republicans throw at her .Sarandon is more of a hro than McCain who did nothing except being shot down and held in captivilty, kust like the prisoners in Guantanamo. Are those heros maybe ?Well???
Yes how dare she voice an opinion in the land of free speech,by doing that she undoubtfuly demonstrates that she is a socialist,a communist,a traitor, paid by the north-korean government. If she were a true american she would shut up,after all she lives in a democracy ,right ?Everybody should know that it is unamerican to ppose McCain, lots of republicans have just demonstrated that in above posts.Vote for McCain or shut up,right ?
Why is her remark any worse than the really vile, disgusting comments thrown at Obama and Hillary. I don't think they quoted her as going nearly that far - think about it!
Do you need help packing.. Can you take some of your friends with you????
When are you leaving. Please spare the Italians and stick to Canada.
