The 63-year-old rocker - who is currently on the European leg of the run of shows - wants the equipment available backstage in case he struggles with the demands of his performances.
At a concert in Norway last Friday (23.05.08), Rod told organisers he needed "two first-aid type oxygen kits" with masks.
A source explained to Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "The oxygen kits had everyone talking. It wasn't the sort of thing that you'd expect but he is such a star that anything goes and we were more than happy to oblige."
Rod also requested 48 white, size 5, non-logo soccer balls so he could kick them into the crowd at Norway's Ruten festival.
During his stay, the 'Maggie May' singer also wanted £8,000 of food a day for him and his crew, a marquee, a presidential suite at a top hotel, three limousines, UK newspapers and a good dry cleaners.
Rod is not the first music star to request oxygen.
Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger used it backstage during the band's mammoth 2006 tour.
A source said: "It helps him get his breath back quicker, keeps the airways clear and gives him what he needs to get back out and step it up a gear for the second half of the show."
Guns N' Roses singer Axl Rose also inhales pure oxygen before live shows.
