Britney Spears reportedly has a new boyfriend.

The singer made her first formal public appearance in months at Ed Hardy owner Christian Audigier's 50th birthday party in Los Angeles on Saturday (24.05.08), accompanied by Jason Trewick.

Jason - who, according to sources, has known Britney "for years" - has been getting closer to the singer since her recent holiday in Costa Rica.

The new romance has received the blessing of Britney's father, Jamie, who sees him as a "stabilising influence".

A source told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "Jamie thinks Jason would be a great match for Britney.

"She always had a thing for bad boys but now she realises good guys can be attractive, too."

One person Jamie doesn't think is a good influence on his daughter is Michael Jackson.

According to reports, Britney's dad physically stopped the troubled 'Thriller' singer from speaking to her at the star-studded bash, fearing he could be a negative influence.

Michael - who has made few public appearances since his acquittal on child molestation charges in 2005 - surprised guests when took to the stage at the bash, though disappointed many when he didn't perform.

Instead, the singer spoke a few words to say: "Christian is the king of fashion."

A guest at the party said: "Everyone went mad when he grabbed the microphone. The mood was electric.

"But sadly, there was no impromptu gig. It was a shame because he looked in pretty good shape. He was obviously just putting in an appearance for his old pal Christian."

As well as Britney and Michael, other guests at the party included Pamela Anderson, Snoop Dogg and Fergie.
