We do not ask our human babies to do things.... like walk before their biological clocks say it is time....so why do we race the baby horses. I did not get on my horse's back till he was 3 years old and I knew his knees were closed and his joints could take the impact of galloping, cantering. I handled him for all those non - riding years and trained him to enjoy life and me. I sure hope there is a horse heaven. RIP EIGHT BELLES

I hate horse racing but if it must continue..A horse should be a specific age. No younger. I'm pretty pissed about the whole thing.

My heart goes out to Eight Belles' connections. What a horrible shock to have your horse go down after finishing second. I don't blame any of her connections for her tragic death. My heart goes out to them, as do my prayers. Larry Jones, you are one in a million as far as trainers go. May you be blessed. Rick Porter, you entered your filly in the derby and shared her with the world. Blessings and thank you. Gabriel Saez, you rode this filly to a second-place victory. You have her a great ride. Thank you, and be blessed.

To all the others who loved her : She's finished her race well, and she is God's filly.

My heart breaks for her connections. Be comforted.

To those that attacked them : find something better to do, please. Picture yourself in the connections' shoes. They are stressed and grieving. Be a comfort, not an added agony.
