Amy Winehouse's dad wants her committed

Amy Winehouse's dad has begged for his daughter to be committed to a mental hospital.

Mitch Winehouse wants the troubled singer - who on Friday (25.04.08) spent a night in police cells before being cautioned with common assault - forcibly locked up in a mental hospital as he thinks it's the only way she can get help for her life-threatening drug addiction.

He told Britain's News of the World newspaper: "I want her sectioned. The situation is getting out of control. I want her off the street."

He also believes sending just Amy will not be enough.

He said: "I don't think being somewhere for six weeks is going to cure her problems. I think it needs far more radical measures. We will take the bull by the horns and deal with it."

Mitch - who is divorced from Amy's mother - has been in contact with doctors and psychologists in a bid to get her sent to hospital.

He said: "You need all four - the psychologists, the doctor, the local health authority and the next of kin - all to decide that somebody is sectionable. Now is the time to exert whatever pressure we have to try to do it.

"I've told them she is a danger to herself. There is evidence of self-harming and she's a danger to other people because she's attacked someone."

Earlier this week, Amy attacked two men during a drug-fuelled night out.

She hit Moroccan musician Mustapha el Mounmi when he refused to give up his space on a pool table at a London bar.

She is then said to have head-butted a man in the street and accused him of trying to molest her as he attempted to hail cab to get her home safely.

It has also been reported the 24-year-old singer has been cheating on imprisoned husband Blake Fielder-Civil with her manager's assistant Alex Haynes.
