The drunk driver who hit Sandra Bullock and Jesse James on Friday night (18.04.08) is "relieved" no-one was hurt.
Lucille Gatchell, 64, was found to be two times over Massachusetts' legal alcohol limit when she smashed into the front end of the private car carrying the 'Speed' actress and her husband James after jumping lanes in her grey Subaru car.
Gatchell's defence attorney Benjamin Richard said: "Miss Gatchell is very relieved that no one was injured. She also wants to express her gratitude to Ms. Bullock and Mr. James for what she understands was their concern for her well-being after the accident."
After entering a plea of not guilty in District Court in Gloucestershire, Massachusetts, yesterday (22.04.08), Gatchell was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and a marked lanes violation.
Bullock and James were said to be "shaken up" after the incident, but didn't require any medical attention.
Speaking at the scene of the accident, police lieutenant Gerry Cook said: "They were shaken up, needless to say. But they were fine - Jesse and Sandra were hugging. They said they were fine, they didn't need medical attention. There were quite a few people snapping pictures of them."
Gatchell is required to appear in court again on June 6 for a pre-trial hearing.
