Madonna says her struggle for success was the inspiration behind her latest movie.
The 'Material Girl' singer - who makes her directorial debut with 'Filth And Wisdom' - admits she based some of the film on her fight for fame and music stardom.
She said: "One of the things that I explore in the film is struggle. If I look back at the beginning of my career, I can recall those moments of struggle like it was yesterday. There are aspects that I could relate to completely and I could access that memory and put it in the story."
Madonna - who is married to British director Guy Ritchie - moved to New York in the late 70s when she first tried to make it in the pop world and the mother-of-three insists she will always be grateful for what she has in her life now.
She added: "I think 30 years ago happiness meant to me that I could feed myself and put a roof over my head, I could survive in New York, find a place in the world and have my voice be heard. Now happiness is being grateful that all those things continue to happen to me."
