Katherine Heigl was terrified of hospital dramas before starring in 'Grey's Anatomy'.
The actress - who is currently earning rave reviews for her performance in '27 Dresses' - lost her brother Jason in a car accident in 1986, and said the event changed her life completely, including her TV choices.
She said: "When I was 27 I joined the cast of 'Grey's Anatomy'. I was worried it would be weird. I couldn't even watch 'ER' because it made me feel so anxious."
However, Katherine soon realised being on the hit US show would help promote a cause close to her heart - organ donation.
She said in a magazine interview: "I realise it's a sensitive subject - nobody wants to talk about the 'what ifs'. And it's hard for people to think about organ donation in the middle of a crisis.
"But we all need to be aware that there's a critical shortage of available organs and people's lives are hanging in the balance."
