Drew Barrymore is donating $1 million to feed African children.
The 'Music and Lyrics' actress - who has worked with the World Food Programme (WFP) since 2005, and became an Ambassador Against Hunger last year - says her visits to Kenya have opened her eyes to the crippling poverty in the Third World.
Drew told US chat show host Oprah Winfrey yesterday (03.03.08): "I have seen with my own eyes what a difference a simple cup of nutritious porridge can make in a child's life. It helps them learn, stay healthy and sets them on track for a bright future."
Josette Sheeran, the Executive Director of the WFP, added: "We have a dream to feed another 10 million hungry school children in Africa by Thanksgiving (25.11.08)."
Drew's decision is fully supported by her boyfriend Justin Long, who she met on the set of movie 'He's Just Not That Into You'.
When Oprah asked him what he liked about 33-year-old Drew, Justin replied: "She smells good. She's beautiful and funny. And she is the most compassionate person I've ever met."
Drew's best friend and 'Charlie's Angels' co-star Cameron Diaz - who she nicknamed 'Poo' - also phoned into the show to praise her pal's charitable giving.
She said: "I'm just so choked up and so proud of this information Drew is giving the world."
