Narconon is a front recruitment effort by the church of Scientology. They repeatedly target those most susceptible to there brand of pseudo-psychiatry. Be they troubled teens, struggling entrepeneurs, or drug addicts.
Narconon consists of long hours in a Sauna, Vitamins, and Auditing sessions. It also costs a massive amount of money. During the regimine, you will be exposed to the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard, and they will attempt to bring you into the Scientology organisation.
And then, they suck you dry. The cost for reaching the higher levels of the church alone are estimated at over 300,000 dollars. This does not invlude random mandated 'Donations' and pressure to buy related documents, books, and media. Many Scientologists end there lives bankrupt and in debt, with nothing to show for it.
And Narconon is one of the stepping stones into this vicious organisation. it should not be lauded. It does not work. It has not been proven to work. It is a Lie.
We are Anonymous
The fourth fleet is coming. March 15th, world wide.
How very sad. Conaway seems like the perfect mark for an organization like Scientology- people who want to get off drugs are desperate for help and can be taken advantage of by groups like this one. Anonymous' comment above is right on- research it yourself- recovering drug addicts need acceptance, understanding and the freedom to make a new life for themselves (not forced vitamin and sauna regimens). I hope that Mr. Conaway finds another way to stay off drugs, one that is less potentially harmful to him.
Good for Jeff. If he'd listened to Anonymous hacks, he's still be on drugs.
Guess Conaway didn't think it was a 'lie'. Probably saved his life. Not that you'd care Anon.
Have claimed another victim....Scientology is evil.
Good for Jeff! By his own efforts he improved his life instead of going down the Elvis Presely pathway. The critics who snark up their sleeves at people who make personal effort can suck sour grapes. It isn't easy and it isn't automatic and no one can do it for you. Good for you, Jeff!
Well done for Jeff and also for John Travolta who showed compassion and care for another human being. It's however unfortunate that individuals with hatred for minority religions and their followers spread intolerance and misunderstanding.
Hey! Good for you. For details about Narconon, go to ABLE (dot) org and follow the links. Definitely check out CCHR (dot) org and FreedomMag (dot) org.
Narconons results are amazing and not desputed.
They are among us...They're here!!! They're here !
You can beat drugs without following some Kookie religion based on books by Elron Hubbard....with his Kryptonian sounding name.
Good for Jeff he is doing well staying clean and sober but it is a shame he got Body snatched. Hopefully he snaps out of it. But he is easily brainwashed. It's not a religion. It's a fad and a cult and it is full of weeeeerdoooos!!!!!
I like Travolta despite his crazt l'il hobby but this Organization and that is what it is an organization ( like a company like Microsoft ) may give people order in this chaotic world but they convince them to follow ridiculous Alien origin stories you'd find in a science fiction paper back .....key words ( SCIENCE FICTION ) Do more research you'll see they're like the Sopranos try to get away you can't or you'll be dead.
Taking the time to see what organizations like Narcocon can do to the lives of people and looking at what they do and how they help individuals is a sign of sanity. Mixing the results of this rehab program with the alleged attempts of scientology to 'recruit' or 'convince' people is a blatant insanity.
This group 'annonymous' is truly sick and it makes me rather sad that they believe they have a hope against scientology. I've known some scientologist and know how hard they work in HELPING people become better individulas and I've see how they dedicate their lives to educationg and making the best of most.
Somebody I knew once did the Narconon program and it was an incredible man after that. Only man who decide to not take responsibility for others easily find ways to attack the first thing they see.
People don't have to believe what one or the other group writes, just pick up a bit here and there and make up your own mind NOT your ONE SIDED mind.
Narconon is a program that has helped thousands of people and one is certaing of this when one has seen what it does, PERIOD!
Made that movie body snatchers as a message about her marriage to Tom Cruise. Don't you see what we're offering you, a better life without troubles worry and strife ? In a cold creepy tone of voice.
I'm curious as to what Anonymous would recommend to treat addiction. As I understand Anna Nicole Smith decided not to do Scientology because of lies similar to those Anonymous is telling. She believed them and got on prescription drugs which included psychotropic drugs. It is my opinion that pharmaceuticals including psychotropics are responsible for killing both Anna Nicole Smith and her son and in both cases. Has any legal action been taken against Psychopharmaceutical companies. Are we supposed to believe these companies are innocent, that they are above the law because they are peddling something that 'helps a few people'. I believe this goes way beyond overdiagnosing. More like about getting rich selling drugs.
Which reminds me, I keep hearing how Scientology is the cult of greed but nobody has found anyone in the Church of Scientology driving around in fancy cars and taking fancy vacations or simply building wealth. If there is such a person then make him known.
As to Narconon being disputed, very little if anything isn't disputed. As I read anonymous posts most of which are just nonsense, I detect some of these are very craftily written as if they were written by someone who knows what they're doing. Not that these have anything on Scientology but they sound authoritative sounding but would be basically unchallengeable because nothing was stated with meaningful clout just like any typical advertisement and of course they don't even put their own name on it. This doesn't sound like a grassroots movement. This smells professional with blood money behind it. But you ask who would profit. What about the PsychoPharmaceuticals who are peddling psychotropics to school kids. These companies are attempting to push laws that will put the force of law behind their drugging children, which is being fought against by Scientology. It would be claimed these PsychoPharms are competitors of Scientology. The truth is Scientology centers have to turn away people who have been on psychotropic prescriptions such as Prozac as they can no longer benefit from Scientology services. Are people supposed to believe these campus shooters who were on prescription psychotropic drugs for a little anxiety would have gotten even worse otherwise and would have been OK had they not stopped taking their meds.
To respond back to some of the commenters here...
Personal Effort, I resent your implication that anyone takes getting off drugs lightly. I applaud Mr. Conaway's efforts- and if you took the time to read my comment you would see that I do not criticise him at all.
John, no one said anything about hatred for any religion. People are free to believe as they choose. BUT the CoS perpetrates fraud and violates the civil rights of its members. Google 'Rehabilitation Project Force'. You'll find accounts of CoS members forced to work 18-hour days of physical labor, deprived of sleep, basic lodgings and food. No one should be treated that way, religious organization or not.
James Lightfield, all the sites you suggest are CoS sites. Wouldn't people be better informed if they got both sides of the story? Google 'Narconon efficacy'.
Iggy, you are absolutely wrong when you say that Narconon's results are 'amazing and not disputed'. In the most frequently quoted study of Narconon's results, CoS claims a 78-85% success rate for Narconon. Closer examination of the data (obtained under Swedish Freedom of Info laws) shows that of the 61 individuals in the study, 47 dropped out before completing it. 13 of the remaining 14 were contacted a year later. Out of those 13, 11 said they were not presently using drugs. 11/13= the success rate touted by Narconon.
JC, I have no doubt that there are many Scientologists who are admirable people with a sincere desire to help others. We also agree that it's a good idea to examine Narconon- and see how much they charge for their services. NA, AA, and other non-scientology groups also help people get off drugs- without demanding ridiculous fees for sauna-and-vitamin treatments.
MOSTLY....if somebody chooses to believe in ANY particular faith that of course is generally understood as that persons freedom of choice.
We all know this. However....the Sci's organization is based on fictional novels...that is like someone starting a FAITH based on STAR WARS or The Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter books.
It is HIGHLY commendable that they do help others. Jeff Conaway needed help big time. He was truly a mess.
BUT..please do not defend the SCI's decision to follow fictional books. That is just a ridiculous notion to base a so called religion on.
If they formed an organization based around the fact they help others would be more believable. If they lost the whole xenon thing and just focused on the HELP others issue then others would be less likely to BASH them. It is with this UNDERSTANDING and awarenesss I made my SCI bashing statements. They do good work but the ground they stand on is well....FUNNY. Funny queer funny foolish foolish ridiculous Funny. NOT funny Ha Ha funny. So have faith in that.
The problem isn't with Narconon's initial results. Any program that strictly restricts your actions and ability to acquire drugs will have great initial results. Although the extreme overdoses of niacin they issue may well adversely affect your health in the future.
The problem is that Narconon has a rather pitiful relapse rate. It has been observed at several clinics that most of the attendees are on the revolving door approach to rehab.
In fact, the so-called 'success rate' of 70-80% they have on their literature is based solely on their own studies or of studies conducted by groups affiliated with scientology. But then, this is of no surprise given that these self-proclaimed 'authorities on the mind' are violently allergic to scientific peer-review and in fact, science in general.
It will be interesting to see how Mr Conaway lasts off drugs without a 'handler' present. I certainly do hope for his sake that he is truely rehabilitated...however I cannot hold much realistic hope that this is the case.
and hyprcrytical of them to prescribe Niacin to people when they are so ardent on the we don't even take Aspirin and mind altering chemicals.
The fact they prescribe anything at all makes the whole org of SCI a big LIE.
thats good for jeff but travolta must be paying an arm and a leg for that auditor to go to his house every day. in Clearwater it cost 8,000.00 dollars for 12 and 1 hours of Auditing. so good luck with that jeff. i am afraid that he went to an inexpensive habit to a very expensive habit witch is Scientology. I am happy that he is off drugs but talking about out of the frying pan and into the fires of hell.
The idea is to get back into TV or movies with Johns help and connections.
I wish Jeff Conaway well in his recovery. His performances in years past, including Taxi and Grease, were wonderful. The early parts of Scientology seem, to many people, to be very reasonable and common sense. Jeff isn't anywhere near the truly nutso stuff, nor will he ever know what goes on behind the scenes. However, I think he will find that with his long disappearance from television, and the fact that no one is particularly interested in an aging reality television star, there is a point at which he's going to be pressured to produce some serious income for them.
He's not going to be sufficiently valuable to the Church of Scientology for them to continue offering discounted services, that's for sure. I doubt he has enough cash to head up to OT levels as easily/quickly as easy mark Tom Cruise has.
In any case, Narconon has taken advantage of yet another person who can't control his own life, and so needs someone else to completely control it for him. For awhile, there is benefit to that, like having a 24/7 babysitter to keep him from doing whatever illegal substances he was on. And of course, he won't have to worry too much about being in with his 'old friends' because the Church of Scientology will practically keep him under lock and key, and trot him out for fluffy interviews about his recovery. He's being used, and to the extent that they'll keep him under complete control, for now he's in a physically safe environment. Mentally? Um, not so much. They will use his temporary disorientation to indoctrinate constantly, and he may not keep his sanity.
I just hope that he escapes it with his mind intact. Many, many don't.
To commenter Curiouser: You wrote 'Anna Nicole Smith decided not to do Scientology because of lies similar to those Anonymous is telling. She believed them and got on prescription drugs which included psychotropic drugs. ' I take issue with that.
You are implying that Anonymous has taken a stance on prescription drug use, which is absolutely false. Anonymous is only taking a stance on the pattern fraud and abuse in the CoS. Quit changing the subject, which is that although Mr. Conaway should be commended for getting clean, using Scientology to do so may be putting him at even further risk.
Your accusation that any opponent of Scientology must be a paid drug company flunkey is ridiculous. I oppose the CoS because they defraud and abuse their members. I know that because I've seen it in real life. Some people who comment on Scientology 'sound like they know what they're doing' because they are intelligent, free-thinking people who have taken the time to research the CoS.
But hey, don't take my word for it. Research it yourself. Here are some search terms to get you started: Operation Freakout, Fair Game, Rehabilitation Project Force, Paulette Cooper, Disconnection, R2-45, Operation Snow White, Paulette Cooper, Lisa McPherson, Fort Harrison Hotel, Sea Org, RPF's RPF.
Jeff Conaway loses control shoots Eddie Munster / Butch Patrick.

@Jane Doe and other critics on this blog. You need to go to a Narconon graduation and see the non-Scns whose lives are being saved. You'd be shamed and embarrassed and unable to face these people, their family and parents who are incredibly thankful that Hubbard's programs are working. Your bigotry and intolerance is unfortunate and hurting these people whether you like it or not.
Silly scientology cultists all up in this blog.
You are the victims. You are your own catrists. You have to be pretty thick to not notice that LRon mocked you in effigy in Battlefield Earth. Think long and hard about who the Psychlos are and who the Catrists are. Of course you do have to read to the very end, it isn't revealed until the last chapter.
Then think about what happens when you put those words together. It's not a really tough puzzle.
We will bring this cult down.

Within the healthcare field, Narconon is every bit as controversial as the 'church' of Scientology. It's efficacy is widely questioned; it's agenda, normally hidden; and it retains an almost total unwillingness to open itself up to any sort of outside peer review.
This is very odd if you take it's claims of success at face value. Surely any rehab program that regularly achieves a 76% plus success rate, would be all too keen to open it's doors to mainstream review and assessment. External validation and peer review could only benefit Narconon.
Instead, there's an extreme shortage of scientific literature on its methods; to such an extent that a researcher will actually have problems finding assessments in mainstream medical journals.
Almost anything of this ilk will have at least some successes - so Jeff Conaway's apparent achievement - is not necessarily indicative of any particular merit in Narconon's methods.
The broader picture suggests that Narconon is in fact anything but successful.
Read the comment...THIS IS A FREE WORLD once more. Maybe you'll see the FOREST for the TREES are in your way. You are the one who is brainwashed and ignorant. When you ROB someone blind in the guise of HELPING them are you still performing good deeds?
@Mardi: A few points. Again, everything I'm saying here is easily researched by googling 'Narconon efficacy'.
1. Any person who graduates from Narconon yet claims to be non-Scn is non-Scn in name only. The Narconon program has 4 parts:
-Drug-Free Withdrawal
-the 'Narconon Therapeutic TRs Course' (a series of 9 'training routines' which are identical to the 'training routines' completed by beginner Scientologists),
-the 'Narconon New Life Detoxification Program' (the same process as CoS' 'Purification Rundown', which it claims is *purely a spiritual process*)
-6 'Narconon Life Improvement Courses' which teach the *exact same concepts* as CoS spiritual courses.
When so much of the Narconon program is lifted directly from CoS religious doctrine, either Narconon is a religious group affiliated with Scientology, or what Scientology teaches is in fact non-religious. You can't have it both ways.
2. You wrote: 'You'd be shamed and embarrassed and unable to face these people, their family and parents who are incredibly thankful that Hubbard's programs are working.'
I am in no way shamed or embarrassed to speak out against a program that is scientifically inaccurate and potentially harmful to its members- the massive doses of niacin in the 'Purification Rundown'/'Narconon New Life Detoxification Program' do no good and may actually harm patients. As for families and parents, how about the families who have lost a member because CoS encouraged them to 'disconnect' from anyone critical to Scientology? I doubt they would be singing the praises of this organization.
You also wrote, ' Your bigotry and intolerance is unfortunate and hurting these people whether you like it or not.' Please quote to me one time- just one- that I have said anything bigoted or intolerant here. There is nothing bigoted or intolerant about opposing a group that defrauds and abuses its members.
*Please note that all terms in quotes in this post are (TM) to CoS. I have no desire or method to profit from their use in this post, and my use of these terms falls under the fair use doctrine of US law. CoS has a long history of frivolous lawsuits against its critics and I am clearly stating that I have no intent to breach CoS' copyrights.
Jane........is a lawyer.
If the SCI's prescribe Niacin as a med it is hypocrytical of them. They PREACH that they don't use or APPROVE of any prescription drug.
So right off the bat you can see a red flag.
Take a look at the members of the ''Church'' Rich folks who shell out millions and in return they get TAX breaks and new members have to pay through the nose.
I don't care about all the good they claim to have done...alot of folks were broken along the way.
If you're not some rich powerful H-wood superstar you won't last as a Sci.
Somehow some way someday this SHAM will be exposed for the racket it really is. A MONEY MAKING MACHINE......with tax breaks because of the whole CHURCH angle. WAKE UP WAKE UP WAKE UP WAKE UP.
This company has also infiltrated the WHITEHOUSE it goes deep, very deep. Jim Bakker is gone...Jerry Falwell too.
Hubbard knew religion was a big money making biz. Now this has gone too far!!
Narconon and Criminon are front groups for Scientology. It's what Scientology uses to weed out prospective members.
This way they can then avoid having real drug addicts and criminals in the church and thus avoid any bad press about thier psychotherapy not working.
Basically, if you're a drug addict, you must first go through Naraconon before joining the church. If you fail, you're not allowed in. Sorry.. no dice. The same thing goes for Criminon.
Rich, celebrity addicts are the best candidates, because they have the money to spend on all the courses, books and lectures.
Keep in mind that LRH once said that the main objective of Scientology is to 'Make Money, Make More Money, Have Others Make Money.'
And I am assuming you know this for a fact because you have gone through narcanon, correct Annonymous. You shun Scientology because you are ignorant to it. Get some tech...until then, shut up about it. Your ignorance is not appealing
You're right Jane Doe...Vitamins and sauna time...how dare the Scientologists try to treat addiction in such a humane & healthy way.
Seriously, you don't have to agree with Scientology, but your opinion is just that...and opinion. Jeff benefited from the help of his friend...and I am sure that he is glad he listened to him. What is your suggestion, Jane Doe, take a trip to the psychiatrist office. That would be great...give the addicted more drugs!!!
Again, get some tech!
Do not listen....Defend them all you like they are a den of thieves.
Help all the people you like but leave them broke and homeless.
Take all the money take it all take it take it.

Scientologists do not believe in Psychiatry or treatment requiring a Psychiatrist. Not to be rude butyou hardly know enough about them to defend them. I can bash em all I like I read the books and I took them for the great works of fiction they are.
I know what drives them and how they think and the way they approach almost everything.
They never make a move unless they can somehow benefit from it.
THAT is scandalous and they're a bunch of scamming cheaters.
Take a look at all the people they helped a long time ago. See how they're doing now Huh?
They're either dead or poor or homeless. Or they are some famous big wig or attorney or Dr. See you either perservere or you fail with them there is no middle.
Maybe none of anonymous has actually gone to narconon because they are informed people that make their decisions based on peer reviewed science and not on what a bunch of celebrities have to say.
Anonymous does not support nor shun psychiatry, you people are just changing the subject and by doing that, you are burying yourself even deeper.
The anonymous campaign is based in real events heavily documentated in court cases in and outside the USA. Google operation snow-white or scientology in belgium.
And about Anonymous looking like professionals supported by bloodmoney, I dare you to show me proof of that. You just can´t grasp the fact that your organization is suffering its heaviest attack since 1993 during someone´s spare time.
Anyway, this anon thanks you for the professional part, as for the bloodmoney part, show me the proofs.
As I read this stream of senseless nonsense,I came to a realization.
People who have defended Scientology here on this site are FANS of it.
They like the ideals they represent. But they never seem to fully comprehend the danger this organization poses to society.
Almost like the FREEMASONS or the SKULLS or another powerful entity the Blydengergs I believe. They grow and GROW and branch out ever further. This so called CHURCH gains more power everyday.
Nobody stops them.
Sooner or later very secretive like...they'll have a member in the Whitehouse as leader of the free world.
This cannot happen. How can we stop it? As bad as TAXES are and with rising gas prices and real estate taking a downward spiral in NY I simply can't imagine what one of these greedy psycho's would do as President of the U.S.A.
Please everyone...I implore you to do whatever you can to speak out against the EVIL that is Scientology!!!!!
.................................................WHAT ! ?
evertything I've heard from scientologists long on drama and dreadfully short on facts. I've read dianetics same thing applies
I would love to see one double blind study or independent analysis that backs up the claims of dianetics LRH CoS and Narconon. I've looked, I've asked scientologist but they don't seem to be anywhere.
for example I've looked at all the 'studies' about Narconon's great results (from their webpage) but when I look they are simply studies by scientologist about scientology no independent verifcation
I'm asking those scientologists out there with all this great technology can you cite one independent study that substanitates CoS and Narconons claims????
funny how they keep touting scientology as a religion when it is not. name one other 'religion' that charges fees for the road to enlightenment. can't think of one, neither can I. notice in canada they are not accorded the tax free status a religion would get. so in canada they are a business. nuff said
I have been saying that all along. It's a company. Not a religion.
They will help you. But you'll have to shell out some bucks. There are no studies and no proof and no documentation that they have helped anyone. There are no papers or diskettes or anything of that nature to show anyone any proof no one single Church rep can say we helped THIS guy recover and see how well he's doing and then point to Tom Cruise.
John Travolta is simply helping out an old friend. He will probably shell out the $$ too. He will also bore the crap out of Jeff with long lectures about Scientology. Lets see Jeff in one year from now. THEN we can pick up this discussion. In the meantime? Show us the people who you've helped. If you can't don't bother with an re:
Macaffery, you're certainly right about the money Scientology likes to charge at every step of the way on it's 'road to enlightenment'. However you're wrong to say without qualification that Scientology helps you.
If you take a very bright and devious conman, with the aim of obtaining as much power and money as possible. Who decides that the way they'll do it is by cooking up a new self-help system. You have a pretty accurate explanation of why Scientology's the way that it is.
Hubbard cooked up his self-help system from obscure psychiatric theses that he'd stolen, common sense wisdom (albeit with shiny new names), bits of Freud, bits of hypnosis, bits of this, bits of that and some of his own ideas.
Some of what he borrowed from had merit, therefore some Scientology/Narconon/Criminon has merit. Taken as a whole however, it is medically and psychiatrically dangerous. Hubbard himself recognised this, and one of the smartest decisions he ever took was to style Scientology as a 'religon'; this has made it very difficult for governments and outside agencies to prosecute or challenge it.
If you practice Scientology, there are written obligations stopping you picking and choosing the bits you like. The result is that there is a strong chance of your developing serious Psychiatric difficulties after a time, and a lesser, but by no means insignificant chance of your actually dying as a result of following it's doctrine.
Narconon is Scientology; it acts as a feeder system for the 'church' providing an additional route for people to come into contact with their organisation.
That's righhht....
Scientology feeds your mind with subliminals. Sort of like John Carpenters ''They live''.
Really what is happening is you are treated with temporary mental placeboes to make you feel a little better and a little more clear headed.
But in reality.....you are not really getting the real help you are desperate for.
But they'll coax you along with affirmations and pats on the back and pep talks and praise.
It is all part of the popular brainwashing used by Rev. Moon.
Same thing...different version.
Brainwash 101
Brainwash v2 and so on. Get it people?

Congrats to Jeff Conaway on his addiction recovery. We saw him sometimeago on TV and he looked haggered, and old.
We're great fans of Murder-She-Wrote & have many many of her TV episodes on tape in which several were of Jeff C. & Genie Francis (supposed neice of Jessica Fletcher's) Great to see you looking good, Mr. Conaway.
I am trying to get in touch with Dr. Drew. I have been where Jeff is. I have had 10 back surgeries, a failed fusion, and broken screws all over inside me. The broken hardware can not be removed or I would bleed to death. Before my initial soccer injury, I competed and won a number of biathlons. The back injury was as much an emotional trauma as it was physically painful. The rebound pain from all the pain medicine made it next to impossible to get off of. I was about to lose my will to live. I ended up tapering off the medication knowing very well that each time I reduced my dosage, I would hurt TERRIBLY for 3 days. After the 3 days, I would slowly adjust to the lower dose. It was quite possibly the hardest, most painful experience I have ever been through. I never seemed to be able to get completely off the pain medicine with legitimate reason.....UNTIL A MIRACLE cure!!! I was at the end of my rope. I tried steriod injections, acupunture, miofacial release, laser stimulation, biofeedback, hypnosis, stimulator implants, ... Then, it happened... I had a botox injection in my back!! It was the miracle that I longed for. I get a botox injection every year and I actually have pain free days!! I no longer take pain medicine and my life has turned around. I simply do not understand why this procedure is not used more often. The botox injections in my back have truly changed my life!! (Of course I wish they could slip some botox over to my aging face, but the pain relief in my back and sciatic nerve is unbelievable!!) I hope someone reads this message and can determine its applicability to Jeff. It just may be the miracle he has been searching for. (Don't get me wrong, however. You have to get off the pain meds to really realize how wonderful this solution is. You will experience excessive pain as you get off the meds...It does get better)
